Democrats are charging ahead with a vote to censure Representative Joe Wilson for calling President Obama a liar. I wonder how much money he’ll raise when they’re done. I say good, let them waste their time. It’s less time for them to destroy the republic.
There is also some uneasiness among rank-and-file Democrats, including members of the Congressional Black Caucus, that by singling out Wilson, party leaders will make him a martyr or cause célèbre for the right.
“I would not make Joe Wilson the martyr he is not,” Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) told POLITICO. “If the House proceeds, they can make the mistake of appearing to want to humiliate a member who has indeed apologized to the president…We ought to think strategically about what there is to gain… I would not want to vote to humiliate him, rubbing it in.”
But senior party officials said that it’s too late, that Wilson is already an icon among conservative activists and other Obama critics for what he did. By sanctioning Wilson, Democrats then demonstrates that it won’t tolerate such disrespect from other GOP lawmakers for Obama.
“Won’t tolerate such disrespect.” Who are they fooling. I wish I had the time to dig through and find how many times President Bush was disrespected by member of their party. It seemed like it happened on a daily basis. Wilson just took a page out of their playbook. And it’s probably going to backfire.
Hey, if the president might be shady concerning certain issues…then someone needs to speak up, right. This is politics, no one can tell me that all that is said, even about the health care reform, that it will take place-plus there are a lot of UN specifics concerning who will get health care benefits…ups, sorry, I got off the subject
