Oh the sweet poetic justice.
For months the frustration of ordinary Americans has been growing. It isn’t just the plan to take over 1/7th of the American economy with what they call health care reform. It’s also bailout after bailout and nationalizing American industries. Earmarks and pork after being promised no more earmarks and pork. It’s the things they’re quietly slipping past us - like $100 Billion per year in student loans guaranteed in full by the taxpayer. It’s the corruption, the complete lack of transparency and the bold faced lies. It’s the world apology tour and a Ramadan dinner after brushing off the National Day of Prayer. It’s forgetting the lessons of 9/11 and betraying the dead. And it’s all led by the president. People have had enough.
And Wednesday night a little known congressman from South Carolina had enough. And he spoke out. At the most inappropriate of times.
But he was only expressing what millions of Americans were shouting at our televisions – at our president. Thanks to Representative Joe Wilson we were heard! We were heard by the president, the vice president, the speaker of the house and the full congress. We were heard by about 30 million of our fellow citizens. And many of us cheered! But you certainly wouldn’t know that by the reaction of the political elites (on both sides of the aisle) or the main stream media.
Within hours Rep. Wilson was branded as a crackpot who used to take NoDoz. Democrats called for censure, the state of South Carolina was mocked again and comedians had a field day. (I should thank Politico for joining the mockers – you made this post so easy for me.)
The media and the elites still don’t get it. They just don’t understand that mocking and condemning Joe Wilson is no different than mocking Tea Party protesters and angry town hall attendees. They mocked the very people who pay their big salaries. They mocked the engine of our economy. With two words Joe Wilson told millions of Americans he was on our side. And now Joe Wilson is having the last laugh.
With a political arms race in full force, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) has raised almost $750,000 in less than 48 hours since his shout of “You lie!” to President Obama during the Wednesday address to Congress, almost matching the Internet-fueled haul of his likely Democratic opponent.
A senior GOP official said Wilson, who apologized to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel after the health-care speech but has since refused a more public apology, has turned his own previous sleepy campaign machine into an Web-friendly effort. Just as liberals have poured cash into the campaign of Rob Miller, who lost to Wilson by almost eight percentage points in 2008, conservatives are pouring contributions into Wilson’s campaign at an astonishing rate.
Miller, a former Iraq war veteran, has raised more than $1 million for his 2010 rematch with Wilson, according to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Republicans expect Wilson to also top more than $1 million by Monday because of the immense publicity he’s received in the last 48 hours. In the relatively inexpensive South Carolina district, which takes in the southern portion of the state, the two opponents will likely have their two-year budgets filled in less than a week, strategists say.
To put this fund-raising haul in perspective, Wilson, by early next week, could equal the total amount of money he raised in the entire two-year-election cycle of 2008, when he raised a little more than $1.1 million.
What will be most telling is where each candidate’s money comes from. My guess is that Wilson received a large number of contributions in the $1 to $25 range, and his opponent received fewer donations but at a much higher amount per donation. I also predict the donations will continue coming in to Mr. Wilson and taper off for Mr. Miller.
If you’d like to contribute to Wilson’s campaign, even if it’s only a dollar, click here.
I almost forgot to mention, after Wilson pointed out President Obama was wrong when he said illegals would not be covered, the democrats swiftly moved to close the loophole that would have covered illegals. But I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.

Of course our senator, Charlie Crist”s Mini-Me, jumped in to throw out his gratuitous criticism of Joe Wilson. This guy is just a sample of what we’ll get with the REAL RINO when Crist takes over the seat. Floridians may as well vote for the REAL Democrat if this phoney gets the nomination. People should contribute to Jim DeMint’s PAC to get REAL Republicans elected.
