Obama’s 29th Health Care Speech was Like a Roller Coaster Ride After a Large Meal

By

President Obama served up a platter of platitudes, fear, lies and sob stories – with a side of Bush bashing – in his health care speech tonight. I lost count of how many times Nancy Pelosi popped out of her chair at 20. Up, down, up, down. I was feeling nauseous after the first five minutes, but the ride wouldn’t stop.

Here are my observations in no particular order.

The man who campaigned against the politics of fear opened and closed his speech with predictions of death and economic destruction if we don’t allow him to have his way with us on health care. Without mentioning her by name, he called Sarah Palin a liar, as well as anyone who has read the House bill and found fault with it.

His words were clipped, unless he was hitting a high note – cue Nancy Pelosi popping out of her seat.

He made several references to working with republicans, yet failed to mention he hasn’t met with any House republicans since April. He skirted the issue of malpractice (tort) reform by saying there are a “range of ideas for patient safety” or some such nonsense, without any mention of trial lawyers’ greed. As if there are no greedy, opportunistic trial lawyers - only incompetent physicians who routinely harm patients for giggles.

He lied through his teeth when he said we can pay for his plan without adding to the deficits. The so-called non-partisan CBO, run by democrats, tells us that’s a lie. Look it up if you don’t believe me.

He said he wants a mandate for all Americans to purchase health insurance. And there will be a mandate for businesses to provide health insurance. Where does the Constitutional scholar find the authority in the Constitution to mandate health insurance? Oh, and he failed to say how he will enforce such a mandate. At least as far as I could tell. Whenever he talks my mind tends to wander. I guess I’m one of those people who’s resistant to hypnotism.

One telling moment was when he said it would take four years to enact his plans. How convenient – after the 2012 election. It’s kind of neat the way he came up with that one, isn’t it?

He repeated the lie that we can keep our health insurance plans and our physicians if we like them.

He’s learned that comparing a public health plan to the United States Postal Service is a bad idea. Substitute public colleges for the Post Office.

The man had the gaul to refer to the time honored American traditions of self reliance, freedom, rugged individualism and skepticism towards government to sell a plan that will wipe out all of the above. Well, save for skepticism towards government.

And of course he couldn’t let the death of Senator Ted Kennedy go to waste. It reminded me of this scene from the old movie “The Outsiders” – substitute Teddy for Johnny. The only difference is the character in the movie had real (movie) enemies, Obama only has straw men.

Are you feeling ill yet?

Update: I forgot to mention how he got a thumbs up from John McCain and pointed out most of the RINO’s in the Senate. Oy!

Update 2: Even the AP takes issue with the “facts” of Obummer’s speech. And a Republican, S.C. Rep. Joe Wilson, heckled Obama during the speech. Good for him!

Update 3: Read the text of the roller coaster speech here. And I just heard that he didn’t distribute the text prior to the speech as is the custom. And Joe Wilson apologized. Bummer.

Update 4: Sarah Palin responded earlier to the White House attacks on her earlier. I’m too tired to do a whole new post so read about it at Hot Air, or just read Palin’s reponse at her facebook page.
