SNL’s Paucity of Political Parody

The new season of Saturday Night Live began with a fizzle. Other than the excitement of watching the F-bomb slip, the show was #1 not funny and #2 curiously missing the famous political sketches that make SNL current and more than just a whimsical foray into comedic uncertainty.

The only thing remotely political was the opening sketch that lampooned the UN speech of Qaddafi (Gaddafi, Kadhafi  – how many spellings can a name have?). I actually thought the real speech was funnier – especially if you add in the fact that his translator gave up mid-way through his rant because he couldn’t take it anymore!

There was nothing about the health care debate, nothing about ACORN, nothing about the NEA, nothing about Cap-and-Tax, nothing about high unemployment, nothing about tax cheating tax law writers, nothing about town hall meetings, nothing about the million tax payer march on Washington, nothing about Sarkozy calling Obama weak, nothing relevant or in the least bit current!! Maybe that was the deal GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt made with Obama before the President gave him the job on the economic advisory board. Hmmm.

So I guess SNL will be stupid crap sketches until the Dems are thrown out in 2010. Of course the jokes will fly when conservatives are more in control. Dems are too warm and fuzzy and their intentions are just too darn good to make fun of. Who could laugh at the thoughtful debate of Pelosi and Reid and company?

So glad I missed it. That show ceased being funny a decade or two ago. It’s surprising that it’s still on.

it’s pathetic, isn’t it, Andrew? it must suck to live without your very own soul because you sold it out to Leftists and Statists and the only humor you can muster are Palin impersonations and flaccid attempts to appear relevant from time to time. one wonders if they’re sitting around, wringing their hands saying, “what the crap are we going to do? we’ve got no material!”

pathetic. i don’t mean that lightly. pathetic.
