The President’s Odd Priorities
ByGeneral McChrystal revealed that he’s only spoken once with his Commander in Chief since taking over command in Afghanistan. This, despite the fact that General McChrystal has warned that if we don’t increase the number of troops the war will likely “result in failure.”
Former US Ambassador John Bolton told the Washington Times that the president’s priorities are misplaced.
“I think it’s very clear, and has been during last year’s campaign and in the eight months the president has been in office, that he just doesn’t regard foreign policy and national security as important as domestic issues, like reforming the health care system,” Mr. Bolton told the hosts of The Washington Times’ “America’s Morning News” on Monday.
He went on: “If you think there are no threats, then it’s not illogical to pay no attention to the rest of the world. The problem is in his [Obama's] basic reading of the international environment where we do continue to face massive threats for international terrorists and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, among others.”
Rather than taking time to speak with his general, President Obama is planning a trip to Copenhagen to lobby for Chicago to host the Olympics. Nothing like using presidential clout to help out his home town cronies.
Here’s White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs explaining that the president can fly to Copenhagen because he’s got the whole health care issue under control. Nothing about the general or the war.
