In case you missed it, here’s video of a fight outside Rep. Russ Carnahan’s (D-MO) town hall meeting earlier this summer. Elston McKowan is the SEIU goon who beat up Kenneth Gladney for handing out “Don’t Tread on Me” flags.
Jim Durbin at 24th State reports that the SEIU is picking up the tab for Gladney’s legal defense. He obtained an e-mail from McCowan begging for money:

Hi All,
I think a truth committee is needed as well as legal and medical funds. To-date my workman’s comp has been denied, which means that I have to pay co-pays for my Dr.’s visits as well as deductibles. Currently SEIU Local 2000 is paying for my legal fees in defending myself and any others charged with assault associated with the Union. I hope that if there is a Civil Suite against me, they will pay those legal fees as well, but there aren’t any guarantees at this juncture.
Thanks,
Elston
As far as the legal bills being paid – I’m not sure about the SEIU but I know some large unions provide legal defense as a benefit to members, so that may not mean anything. Then again, it is suspicious.
The fact that he filed a comp claim would certainly mean he was on the clock at the time he injured himself while beating up Gladney. And it’s certainly no wonder his case was denied. Beating up an innocent man wouldn’t be considered to be in the course and scope of one’s employment. Unless he was instructed to do so by a superior. I’m not familiar with the workers’ comp laws in Missouri. Here in New York there are a number of defenses against a claim such as this, yet I wouldn’t be surprised to see some wacky judge establish the claim.
