Doug Hoffman picks up support from Michele Bachmann

Rep. Michele Bachmann came out in support of Doug Hoffman in the race to fill the NY23 seat vacated by John McHugh on Laura Ingraham’s radio show yesterday.

TPM reports:

Bachmann quite correctly said the race is a “mess,” and said that she’s read that the Republican candidate is now in third place, with the Democrat in first place and Hoffman as the real chance to keep the seat in the GOP column. Interestingly, there has not been any publicly-released poll at this time showing Hoffman in second place. The latest Siena poll had Democrat Bill Owens in first place with 33%, Scozzafava with 29%, and Hoffman with 23%.

Ingraham repeatedly pressed Bachmann on who she supported. Her bottom line: “Hoffman is on the ascendancy, and we have to win this seat. And people need to get behind the winning candidate, and it looks like that’s Hoffman.”

Bachmann was not incorrect about Hoffman possibly being in second place. WaPo reported the other day that internal polling by the campaigns had Scozzafava in third place.

As a side note, the DNCC has been running an ad here linking both Scozzafava and Hoffman to George W. Bush. They allege they both support keeping Bush’s tax cuts in place. Something tells me the voters of NY23 aren’t looking foward to those tax cuts expiring.

Newt Gingrich won’t shut up about his support for Dede Scozzafava. He ought to be admonishing the party leaders who chose her as their candidate.

National Review’s Jim Geraghty is calling on Scozzafava to withdraw from the race after her husband violated the law by filing a false police report. Sounds like a good idea. He isn’t the only one calling for Scozzafava to withdraw.

    Grrrrrrrrrr !

    Hey Newt, STFU!

Hello? McFly! Still hatin’ on W? That’s so last year.

From now on I 100% vote the candidate not the D or the R after it. No more defaults. If I don’t know the candidates then no vote for either.

Dede should withdraw. It would a face saving move that would be the first step in cleaning up this mess.
