Why is the NRCC cutting off its nose to spite its face in NY23?

The NRCC is pulling out all the stops in support of liberal Dede Scozzafava in the race for NY23. The Hoffman campaign announced they’re pouring another $300,000 into her campaign. They’ve also gone on the attack against him, which is counter intuitive – should he win Republicans will certainly need his support.

While the NRCC is expected to support Republican congressional candidates, they certainly don’t have to support Scozzafava with such gusto. They could have made whatever contribution that would be deemed appropriate and then stayed out of it. Instead, they’re angering the base of the party with their support of this liberal woman. She wasn’t chosen by the voters in a primary, but by a group of party leaders in a back room. I haven’t missed many elections in my life, yet I don’t recall ever voting for a party leader.

Republican voters are already disillusioned with the party, this isn’t helping. Ticking off the base is no way to raise money just before an election year. Voters are losing their taste for political parties. We don’t care about the party, we care about our country and our children’s future. We’re certainly going to remember this episode the next time the NRCC, or the RNC for that matter, come begging for contributions.

Something else to ponder: The democratic party didn’t used to be a party of radical socialists. At one time is was a party of classical liberals in the Jeffersonian sense. About a century ago progressives decided they needed to work within the two party system if they were to have any political influence. Look how far they’ve come! They’ve also infiltrated the GOP. Supporting candidates like Doug Hoffman is the best way to stop the progressives and take back our party and our republic.
