All Afghan War Options off the Table?

If we aren’t there to win the war and defeat AlQaeda and the Taliban, what are we doing there?

Fox News reports that an administration official said the president will reject all options on the table.

WASHINGTON —  President Barack Obama does not plan to accept any of the Afghanistan war options presented by his national security team, pushing instead for revisions to clarify how and when U.S. troops would turn over responsibility to the Afghan government, a senior administration official said Wednesday.

That stance comes in the midst of forceful reservations about a possible troop buildup from the U.S. ambassador in Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry, according to a second top administration official.

In strongly worded classified cables to Washington, Eikenberry said he had misgivings about sending in new troops while there are still so many questions about the leadership of Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

Obama is still close to announcing his revamped war strategy — most likely shortly after he returns from a trip to Asia that ends on Nov. 19.

But the president raised questions at a war council meeting Wednesday that could alter the dynamic of both how many additional troops are sent to Afghanistan and what the timeline would be for their presence in the war zone, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss Obama’s thinking.

If I remember correctly, in March 2009, President Obama said that the war in Afghanistan is “the good war.” He affirmed this idea by sending tens of thousands more troops to that country at the time. He humiliated the general who was then in charge in Afghanistan by letting him go and then appointing Gen. McChrystal.

So, if he’s changed his mind, let’s please bring the troops who are now there back home if he’s not going to act on his own statements.

Is this another case of his soaring rhetoric and lack of action?

This man’s enormous ego may well get my nephew killed. I take that personally. If America, in the guise of this child in the White House, has not the will to WIN and WIN PROPERLY, then screw it. Everybody home, right now, and we’ll throw in with the Libs: “maybe 3,000 people per decade is just the price we’ll have to pay”.

It is ironic that Obama did have to take an oath swearing to protect the country from all enemies, both foreign and domestic—and he himself has turned out to be BOTH. I still want that long-form birth certificate.

We are going to lose this war, just as we lost in ‘Nam. Democrats like it when we lose wars. How many American military were lost in ‘Nam? What for? To bomb trees, shacks and swamps, no military trains, ammunition dumps, installations or strategic targets. Thank you, Pres. Johnson and Sec. MacNamara for the useless loss of 58000 American lives. Next, we will be thanking this guy in the White House for the same thing in Afghanistan.

The last Dem warfighter was Roosevelt. Truman inherited his war machine and went on to botch Korea. All since have been soup sandwiches.

I’ve an SF friend who says we can win only if we
KICK ASS. Go in all pussyfootin’ and the bad guys feel empowered and Americans get dead.

Go hunt down and kill the bad guys and guess what?
The bad guys do 2 things: Die or go away.

We have to “own” the geography…not just win a fight and move on.

We have to let the peeps know the jig is up and colateral damage is just the cost of doing business so you’re either with or against us.

    It’s simple…maybe too simple
