Senator Harry Reid hasn’t released his Vapor Bill, but somehow the CBO scored it. The CBO reported it will cost $849 billion – not $848 or $850, you know how accurate the federal government is when predicting the cost of entitlement programs – it’s a solid $849 billion. Since we haven’t seen the bill, there’s no way of knowing what sort of accounting tricks are used to keep the price tag under a trillion bucks. But they assure us that adding 31 million people to the welfare health insurance rolls will not increase the deficit. No, it will magically decrease the deficit, dontcha know. But the bill isn’t a done deal yet.
The legislation, melded together in recent weeks by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, (D, Nev.), faces a crucial test vote later this week or early next week. Mr. Reid must find 60 votes to overcome a procedural hurdle allowing the Senate to formally move to the legislation.
Mr. Reid held meetings throughout the day, including one with Sens. Ben Nelson, (D, Neb.), Mary Landrieu, (D, La.) and Blanche Lincoln, (D, Ark.) — all centrist Democrats. All Senate Democrats are set to meet Wednesday evening to discuss the legislation.
Health-care allies around Washington were alerted that Mr. Reid and top Senate Democrats planned to hold a Capitol Hill rally for the bill at noon Thursday.
They’re holding a rally for the bill. Hmmm. Will they make the contents of the bill public at that time? Or will it remain a vapor bill until all votes are cast?
Update: The republicans released the bill to the public before the democrats.

All done behind closed doors no less. I love this new era of transparancy.
