This is terrible. Fox News is reporting that there was a shooting at Ft. Hood, killing 7 and injuring 12. They’ve confirmed there were at least two shooters – one is in custody and one is on the loose. Shepard Smith just said there may be a third shooter.

Update: The number of wounded was increased to 20.
Update 2: The number of dead has increased to 12. What a tragedy.
Update 3: New reports are 12 dead, 31 wounded. MSNBC reports one of the suspects arrested is an Army major with an arabic sounding name.
Update 4: The shooter has been identified as Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan.

NBC News’ Pete Williams reported that U.S. officials identified the gunman as Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who had been promoted to major in May. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas, said military officials told her that the gunman, who was 39 or 40, was about to be deployed to Iraq and was “upset about it.”
Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone, commanding general of the Army’s III Corps, who briefed President Barack Obama on the shootings, said the gunman used two handguns. …
Two other suspects are in custody, but it’s unclear why.
What a heart break. Pray for the families and the wounded.
Update: Fox News just reported that Hasan was born in Virginia. When he was stationed at Walter Reid he had a bad performance eval.
Update: Via twitter it’s been confirmed that the shooter is still alive. He’s in the hospital.
