About 20% of precincts are reporting and show Owens leading Hoffman.

RS McCain is providing updates. Owens is showing “suspiciously strong” numbers in Scuzzy’s turf – Jefferson County. Exit polls indicated Doug Hoffman was in the lead overall, so we’ll have to wait and see. He also reported strong Republican turnout in the district.

You can follow the results at News Channel 9. I just checked (10:17 PM), with 33% reporting, Owens lead is narrowed to 3%.

Update: RS McCain just reported voting machine malfunctions in St. Lawrence and Fulton Counties.

Update 10:48: Owens’ lead is still at 3%, with 56% of precincts reporting. I haven’t been able to find out which precincts are in, so there’s still hope for Hoffman.

Update 10:54: Hoffman’s people say they’re doing well in Clinton County.

Update 10:57: Hoffman’s within 2 points with 62% reporting. Headed in the right direction….

Update 11:06: Channel 9 just reported that there are over 12,000 absentee ballots that won’t be counted until next week. There are also some ballots outstanding because of voting machine malfunctions. With thousands of outstanding ballots we may not know the results of this race for a while.

Update 11:18: 71% counted – 11 counties to report – Owens’ lead is now about 4%. Channel 9 believes it will be a couple of weeks before we know the outcome. Oh, and it’s going to snow tomorrow.

Update 11:22: News 10 Now is reporting live on TV that it’s going to be tough for Hoffman because his lead in the counties where he’s strongest isn’t as high as expected. No word from either campaign. I can’t find a direct link breaking down the counties. There are only a few thousand votes separating the two candidates. 10,000 paper ballots left to be counted.

Update 11:34: Owens’ lead narrowed to 3%.

Update 11:50: From Twitter: Reports: numbers reported are not matching internal precinct tracking numbers. Hoffman could make late surge.

Hoffman’s Campaign Communications Director, Rob Ryan, is on News 10 Now and said they’re waiting to see what happens. He doesn’t expect this to be decided before morning.

Update 11:59: Fox News called it for Owens. No link yet – per Major Garrett on Twitter. Now they’re replaying Greta and Shep from early this evening.

Update 12:05: I don’t think we’re going to know much more tonight. There are still quite a few votes left to count, so it could be days or weeks before there’s an official winner.

Update 12:08: RS McCain” HOFFMAN EXPECTED TO CONCEDE IN STATEMENT. Will update . . .”

From what I saw on Twitter it can happen at any moment.

12:11: Hoffman’s speaking now.
