The other day I was driving through the little town of Manlius, NY, minding my own business. There was a crew doing something on the side of the two-lane road, so only one lane was open. I saw the trucks and cones, slowed down and then stopped. I did what I was supposed to do, no big deal. I looked in my rear view mirror, and much to my dismay I saw a kid with hair hanging over his eyes, looking at his cell phone (texting?) and obviously not looking at the vehicle in front of him – you know, my vehicle.
Luckily, his teeny tiny little Toyota slammed into my somewhat bigger Ford Escape. I pulled over and got out of my vehicle to see if there was any damage. The little punk never got out of his car. Since there was no damage I got back in my car and drove away. But the incident got me thinking.
At the moment I saw the Toyota coming at me through my rear view mirror I knew there was nothing I could do. I couldn’t lurch forward, there was a car in front of me. I was stuck and I knew it. I thought “He’s gonna hit me!” Luckily the speed limit was only 30 mph so it could have been worse. I’m glad he wasn’t been driving a semi!
Witnessing what’s happening in Washington and Albany kind of leaves me with that same helpless feeling. I’m thinking “You’re gonna hit me!” But it’s going to be so much worse than the little incident I went through. Anyone paying attention knows it. But not enough people are paying attention. Like the kid that hit my car – they’re too distracted to know what’s about to happen.
So what do we do? The national debt is now over 12 trillion dollars. That doesn’t include all of the unfunded mandates. Now they’re about to add another huge entitlement program that we cannot afford. We’re borrowing money from communist countries who lecture us about our spending! How can anyone paying attention think this will all end well? And on top of it all they want to take over our health care!?! How do we get more people to pay attention?
I have a lot of questions but not enough answers. I see it coming. I just don’t know what I can do to stop it. Feeling somewhat helpless, I looked for something to read. I picked up my copy of Freidrich Hayek’s The Road to Serfdom, and found a dog-eared paged with this passage underlined:
Our point, however, is not that dictatorship must inevitably extirpate freedom but rather that planning leads to dictatorship because dictatorship is the most effective instrument of coercion and the enforcement of ideals and, as such, essential if central planning on a large scale is to be possible. The clash between planning and democracy arises simply from the fact that the latter is an obstacle to the suppression of freedom which the direction of economic activity requires. But in so far as democracy ceases to be a guaranty of individual freedom, it may well persist in some form under a totalitarian regime. A true “dictatorship of the proletariat,” even if democratic in form, if it undertook centrally to direct the economic system, would probably destroy freedom as completely as any autocracy has ever done.
Well, that didn’t really make me feel better. But at least I was reassured that this is nothing new. Hayek wrote these words long before I was in existence. Nothing happening today is unique. This recession is isn’t much different than past recessions, contrary to what our “leaders” would have you believe. But like Rahm Emanuel said, “You can’t let a good crisis go to waste.” And they certainly haven’t let it go to waste. The only thing wasted has been our tax dollars and the future of our children, not to mention our freedom.
They gambled on the hope that Americans are ignorant. Now that many Americans have woken up, it’s quite possibly too late. Remember, Obama said “I won,” and that’s all he needed to know. Now we’re left in the unfortunate position of seeing it coming, while wondering what the heck we’re supposed to do about it.

If its any consolation to you I remember in 2004 when Bush was Reelected to his second term I remember visiting The Moderate Voice blog and they were all bemoaning the fact that “How could those IDIOT American voters” elect Bush to a second term?
Repeatedly they felt as if they were not represented by our government and they resented it heavily. They felt as if the country was totally on the wrong track and they were helpless to stop the madness.
The worm has turned. The democrats are doing to the GOP what we did to them but with greater gusto and even less oversight. The Democrats could always filibuster. The GOP cant even do that.
Al Franken of all people gives the Democrats 60 votes.
Paint the jokers face on the man and let America stand tall…Al Franken is the vote that determines Americas future.
“What are those IDIOT American voters thinking????”

Doomed:
I’ll buy into the IDIOT angle in as mucg that younger voters have been brain washed by the minions of the NEA.
Many of the votes were NOT for Bush but AGAINST Gore & Kerry. Face it both are clowns.
This last time around the Dems bring out the big guns. The co-opt the press who up front “selects” John McCain and then goes on to be in the tank for Obama.
Obama, while totally void of executive experience has “star power.” That and a quick dealing of the race card coupled with the power of the press gets Obama elected on false pretenses.
Hope and Change? What did it mean? Everyone filled in their own blanks.
Americans aren’t stupid…complacent maybe but not stupid.
This WILL get turned around. It may get ugly but it’s not going to stand.

My #1 suggestion to everyone would be to pray…….specifically and daily. Remember that the Lord is still in charge of the universe, and He works in mysterious ways.
