Blizzard to Hit DC – Could Throw Harry Reid’s Voting Schedule Off Track
ByBlizzards in Copenhagen and Washington, DC? God certainly is having fun this week.
Due to Senate rules, Harry Reid’s vote schedule is rigged in such a way that critical Senate votes are being cast in the dead of night and early in the morning. It’s a convenient schedule for Senator Reid. Americans are too busy during the day to notice what they’re doing in DC, so why not cast votes while they’re sleeping and “debate” while they’re distracted by Christmas preparations?
Too bad a blizzard could throw a monkey wrench into his schedule.
Good morning, Capitolists! The Senate has officially gone from herding cats to Christmas chaos, with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announcing last night that he will hold procedural votes at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, and several times throughout the week, ending with a final vote on health care at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
The only twist, in addition to the glaring fact that Reid does not yet have 60 votes for his Christmas cliffhanger, is that a blizzard is bearing down on the capital region, potentially making tomorrow’s vote difficult, if not impossible. Republicans had threatened to use every trick in the book to stop Reid’s progress, but who knew they had a connection with the weatherman?
Bonus: Follow the link above to read about the reporter who called Senator Inhofe “ridiculous” in Copenhagen. What’s ridiculous is the spectacle over there and our president embarrassing not only himself, but our whole republic.
Speaking of Senator Inhofe, I heard him this morning on Bill Bennet’s radio show. To say he sounded angry at Harry Reid would be an understatement. For the first time in his life, he could miss Christmas with his family. And for what? To vote against one of the worst pieces of legislation in United States history on Christmas Eve.

After hearing Sen. Jim Demint, SC, speak on the O’Reilly Factor tonight, it seems there’s more than one Senator outraged. Sen. McCain said it best when he said that he didn’t know what was going on in the Senate, but it was not good (after the Lieberman/Franken episode). I hand it to these Republican Senators who are hanging in there, not allowing themselves to be duped into expressing too much anger.
Jim DeMint is one of the best GOP senators, IMO. And I like this new McCain. I only wish he had that same fire last year. The media’s made republican politicians think playing to their base is suicide. But really, if they stick to common sense conservative principles, they’re playing to most Americans. Let’s hope the GOP learned it’s lesson and stops taking their lead from the media.
