Dick Cheney: Obama giving aid and comfort to the enemy

Former VP Dick Cheney isn’t letting up on his criticism of President Obama. He told Politico the president is projecting weakness and more Afghans will turn to the Taliban if they believe the US is going to cut and run from Afghanistan. But his harshest criticism was of the decision to try terrorists in civilian courts.

“One of their top people will be given the opportunity — courtesy of the United States government and the Obama administration — to have a platform from which they can espouse this hateful ideology that they adhere to,” he said. “I think it’s likely to give encouragement — aid and comfort — to the enemy.”

Cheney’s right. Giving those terrorist thugs a platform for spewing their hate and anti-American garbage does give aid and comfort to our enemy.

We’ll see what Obama says tonight about Afghanistan. Will he blame Bush? Will he talk about off-ramps and exit strategies while ammouncing his troop level increase? If so we’ll know this is all about politics and has nothing to do with national security or winning the war against Al Qaeda.

When one thinks of the word “traitor”, it’s not common to attribute it to the Commander in Chief. I call Obama a traitor, period.

Boy, I don’t know Lisa. I’m not sure how he could be a traitor since he’s never been or is an American.

Is it just me, or is Cheney saying that we should take one of the basis of the establishment of our country and throw it out the window? Article 3, Section 2, of the United States Constitution requires that all criminal trials be heard by a jury. It also specifies that the trial will be heard in the state the crime was committed. Yes, I realize what Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has done, and yes I believe that he deserves to be punished, but it is not my, Cheney’s, your, or anyone’s decision to ignore the United States Constitution.

Cheney use the phrase “Aid and comfort” which is taken directly from Article 3, Section 3, of the U.S. Constitution in the description of a treason to the United States. Is he implying that the current administration is committing treason? I have never heard a precedent in which obeying the United States Constitution is an act of Treason. In fact by ignoring the U.S. Constitution Article 3, Section 2, in this manner sets a precedent in which any person can be denied a Trial by Jury. If that is the case we might as well throw away the entire Constitution, one of the very documents that makes our country great. If you ignore even one portion of the constitution then you demean the entire document. If you can ignore one basic right, then you can ignore them all. If you believe that because he is not a citizen of the United States, read the Constitution. Other than holding Presidential Office there is not one mention that any right given to us by the Constitution is limited to those who are citizens. If you believe that this should be added, contact your congressman.

Nice analysis. Seems pretty fair and even to me. We all have issues with individual points of view, but, we should all agree on at least one thing: The Constitution. Thanks.

Your analysis is faulty. The American Constitution grants it’s citizens the right to a fair trial. Al Qaeda combatants are not US citizens and even if they were they are engaged in a war against the United States. The Constitution does not give them the right to a United States trial as it would to American Citizens. President Bush declared war on Al Qaeda and therefore if they are allowed to a trial in the United States public court system it is the same as giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Their trial belongs in a military court since we are at war with them. Anyone who would give them aid and comfort is as guilty of treason as they are guilty of crimes against America.

BTW, The Constitution of the United States was written implicitly as a document for its citizenry and not as a world document. It is implied that it is to be used by and for US citizens. DUH!!!!
