Sigh – Giuliani Rules Out New York Senate Run
ByThis is not good news for Republicans in New York, or the Northeast for that matter, as Allahpundit points out.
The New York Daily News reported:
Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to announce Tuesday he is not running for U.S. Senate or anything else in 2010, effectively ending his storied – and often stormy – electoral career, The Daily News has learned.
The announcement, at which he’ll also endorse Republican Rick Lazio for governor, marks the end of a year-long political dance by Giuliani, who mulled bids for governor and then Senate before backing away from both.
He had reason to weigh each run: surveys showed him a clear favorite to win primaries for either office, and as recently as last week a poll showed Giuliani crushing freshman Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand by 10 points.
Not that I can blame him. I’m sure he didn’t relish the thought of all his personal baggage being unpacked yet again. He will continue working in the private sector and promoting Republicans. Gillibrand must be doing the Snoopy dance tonight.
Perhaps former Governor George Pataki will run. Time will tell.

The NRSC has truly done a bang up job not getting Rudy to run. He could have easily beat Gillibrand. Pataki will probably be the chosen one and unfortunately it will probably be a bit of a closer race if it had been Rudy. I hope George can pull it out, if he can’t it will be another black eye for the NRSC and another seat we could have won.
Giuliani really was up in the polls. She beats Pataki in the polls now. But, he has been out of the public spotlight lately. New York’s hopeless.
