The More Things Change….

By

I’m ashamed to admit that I just watched “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” for the first time. I didn’t even see the whole thing. But what I did see made me realize that the corruption in Washington, DC was around long before I was on this earth. Since this movie came out in 1939 – during the FDR administration – it isn’t at all surprising that corruption in the US Senate was as bad as it is today. One other thing to keep in mind - the film came out in 1939 – about the same time democrats in the US were admiring Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin for their efficiency.

We need a lot more Mr. Smith’s and a lot less of what we have today. If you haven’t seen this movie, you definitely should.

Here’s the trailer.

And here’s Part 1. If you follow this link you should be able to find the rest of the film.

Next up: Dr. Zhivago.

Governmental corruption is as old as mankind, sadly people forget history and labor under the false premise that “it’ll be different this time” because “I” am trying it.

That’s just how it is, and to view the world through rose colored glasses somehow thinking we are different because we’re us is the height of conceit and folly.

    Jer 4:22

22 For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

What we’re seeing now is just how corrupt they are when they have complete control. It’s disgusting.

But I do love this movie. I’d love to see more Mr. Smith’s in Washington, too.

  3. Sam Adams says:

We must ALWAYS heed these words:

“The price of freedon is vigilance.”

Also: In the movie, Mr Smith ends up running for office himself. Present day, the media would take his life apart and place them under a microscope with the aim to vilify him and his family.

This is why “average” Americans avoid politics.
