Let me get this straight. A terrorist is able to board a US flight with bomb material, without showing a passport, after his own father alerted US authorities to his terrorist proclivities. The only reason he didn’t blow up the plane is the detonator device failed to ignite his explosive underpants. Some heroic passengers prevented him from trying again. And the head of homeland security calls this a win for the system?
Politico reported, via memeorandum:
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Sunday that the thwarting of the attempt to blow up an Amsterdam-Detroit airline flight Christmas Day demonstrated that “the system worked.”
We’ve yet to hear from the president. Heaven forbid he should cut his vacation short, or interrupt his round of golf to calm jittery Americans who may have to fly home this weekend. Not even a shout out. Nothing. Silence. I guess he’s perfectly content leaving the above mentioned homeland security “expert” in charge of the situtation.
Update: Jonah Goldberg suggests that Napolitano should be fired. I concur, but in this brave new world it probably isn’t going to happen.
Yeah right Janet, in Bizzaro World it worked. These people in the administration, I swear, they must be channeling Josef Goebbels. Napolitano the “mouthpiece” is insulting and pathetic. Her incompetence is imperiling the nation.

I really think that they live in the Bizzaro World of their reality. I don’t know if you have ever seen what I am referring to, but it was on SNL back around the late 70’s, early 80’s. Everything they did was backwards as a solution to normal problems and shown in a lens distorted series of skits as a parody of Superman Bizzaro. They lived on a square planet called Htrae, (Earth backwards). It was HILARIOUS! People used to joke about it at work. I couldn’t find any video to link to, but I can assure you without a doubt, it fits like a glove as a description of the progressive leftist’s neurosis and behavior.

Well sure it worked, they (TSA, DHS, etc.) can now call for even more government intrusion into our lives sans opposition because it’s for our own good.
If people really wanted to make a statement they would organize and refuse to fly en masse a few times a year. It won’t happen though, people would rather just bitch a little while greasing their buttocks waiting for the thrust. Then walking away spraddle legged bragging how they made a difference, how they Really stood up for their rights……………………..

I guess the question really is “what system”? If not for passengers and crew who were NOT paralyzed by indecision, this would have been a different kind of headline on Christmas Day (note to Islam: what’s the point, since we are “not a Christian nation”).
There’s that apathy again, which is going to destroy the country one way or another. Too many people have become complacent, despite live coverage of September 11, 2001. All I know is that this crap wasn’t happening with the Cowboy and Darth Vader in the White House… note to Napolitano: “waterboarding works”.
