Here’s the story of yet another Christmas tradition killed by the secular progressives.
The Syracuse Post Standard reported:
East Syracuse, NY — When parent Patti Puma learned East Syracuse-Minoa schools wouldn’t let Santa Claus visit during the school day, she couldn’t believe it.
For years, Santa has visited the Woodland Elementary School cafeteria on the day before the holiday break in December to mingle with the children and pass out candy canes, Puma said. This year, she’s learned Santa’s visits have new strings attached.
ES-M has informed parents in a letter that Santa can only visit during after-school hours unless he’s connected to a classroom lesson or activity that’s educational and inclusive of all holiday observances and traditions.
“It makes it seem like Santa isn’t welcome during the school day,” said Puma, who has a fourth-grader at Woodland. “Santa is not a religious figure, and no nativity scene has Santa in it. We’re not missing a wise man who didn’t have GPS on his camel and couldn’t make it.”
Puma said Santa is a secular, cultural tradition. “At a time when there are terrorists in the world, why in the world would we take a symbol of peace and love from the children?” she said.
Puma is circulating a petition protesting the district’s decision, which she plans to present to the school board at its Dec. 14 meeting.
ES-M Superintendent Donna DeSiato said the new guidelines are designed to ensure the district doesn’t promote one singular tradition.
“We did not ban Santa,” she said. “That is a misunderstanding. We are separating out singular activities that need to be family choices, like having Santa come to school and children telling him what they want for Christmas, from instructional programming.” …
So, Santa will be allowed in the classrooms if he’s part of instructional activity. It will take a pretty creative teacher to write Santa Claus into a lesson plan while not showing preference to a “singular tradition.”
I have a question - if we aren’t allowed to celebrate Christmas in our schools and other public places, why is Christmas a national holiday at all?

Look, for I need to remind you that Barack Obama said that this is the season of hope, implying that Christmas is all about him. So, Santa needs to move on out and let Obama Claus take over.
Second, if they want the holidays to be PC, then they can have their own PC Holiday and call it BummerDay because that’s what PC is. They can celebrate all their hope and change crap however they want and let us celebrate our holidays the way we want. It’s time we stop changing how we live our lives because someone who thinks differently might get offended that someone else has a different idea. Come to think of it, I’m offended by all their PC crap. Can I file a suit? Where’s the ACLU when you need them? Oh yeah, that’s right… I don’t count because I’m middle class and white and Christian.

Um, I have two children that attend Woodland Elementary. My youngest is in Kindergarten and keeps bring home stuff about the Hannuka, Kwanza, etc. The kid came home hysterical the other day that he was not Jewish, LOL. So now they want to ban Santa from this district. Give me a break!

We’re in the JD district and it’s the same thing. My 5 year old brought home the menorah he made the other day. I don’t care, but let him make a Christmas tree, too. The first graders do a “holiday show” that’s all multi-cultural and Christmas gets very short shrift.
