A Little Food for Thought

Nothing makes much sense these days. Stimulus bills, jobs bills, spending bills – all the while the economy keeps getting worse. Yet Obama’s determined to continue on the same path. Sure, he makes noises about a spending freeze, which is like hitting a bull with a fly swatter. So, what’s it all about? Victor Davis Hanson provides a clue – Obama’s just fulfilling his dream.

Given the aggregate $7-10 trillion in additional debt envisioned over the next four years, Obama may well become the greatest redistributor in U.S. history, at last addressing his 2001 lamentation about the absence of meaningful “redistributive change” in America. The only question at this point is whether Obama’s gargantuan deficits are aimed primarily at lavishing constituencies with cash, or rather at making it necessary to raise taxes in a way that serves to reduce income inequality.

Whether it’s his intention or not, I believe the result will be the latter. He may think that redistributing wealth to his pet constituencies is a good thing, but he won’t enrich most of them. All he’ll do is make most of us a little (or a lot) more poor. The worst part is what he’s doing to the next generation. I don’t know how they’ll ever pay it all back.

I hate to sound harsh, but we get the government we deserve. Some of us warned of this for months leading up to the election in 2008, but too many Americans ignored our warnings. Now we have this. The best thing to come out of it will be Americans paying more attention to what’s really going on in our government, and not relying on the main stream media for information. Even if that happens, something tells me it won’t last. Either way, we’re going to have one heck of a mess to clean up.

Maybe off this topic, but after Wed. night’s show, maybe Nancy’s new nickname should be “snot bubble”.
