Lame – Martha Coakley Ties Scott Brown to Bush

What do a Massuchesetts State Senator and a former United States President have in common? Nothing! But Martha Coakley thought she’d take a page out of the 2008 Obama playbook and run against George W. Bush in the Massachusetts special election. How lame.

Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican Scott Brown faced each other Monday in the final, feisty debate of the brief campaign for the late Edward Kennedy’s U.S. Senate seat.Coakley tried to portray Brown as a social conservative beholden to what she called the failed policies of former President George W. Bush while Brown tried to cast Coakley as naive on foreign policy and someone who’d give terrorism suspects the chance to “lawyer up” before being interrogated.

Could she be any more unoriginal if she tried?

Coakley also displayed her rabid devotion to abortion:

Coakley called herself a reliable vote in favor of health care although she said she’d vote against a final bill if it included a more restrictive anti-abortion amendment that was part of the House version. Coakley said she believed the final version would adopt the less restrictive Senate language “or some reasonable facsimile.”

[...]

At times the tone of the debate turned combative.

After repeated questioning from Coakley about his views on abortion, Brown turned to her and said, “I’m not a defendant. I’m not in your courtroom.”

Videos of the debate can be found here. The “Get to Know the Candidates” segment includes David Gergen giving Scott Brown a hard time on global warming. Brown handled himself well. Gergen followed up with a puff ball question to Coakley.

Here’s video of the abortion segment of the debate. Again, Scott Brown handled himself very well. Joe Kennedy (the third party candidate) laid out the facts on the disastrous health care bill, and Martha Coakley disputed the facts. Then Scott Brown hit Coakley with her awful stance on trying terrorists here in the US and the death penalty. Typically, she replied with some legalese, basically backing up the Obama administration’s position that we should “lawyer up” terrorists, losing valuable intelligence information.

Is this the same Bush where unemployment was at a whopping 5%?

Excellent observations!! I live in Michigan…I’ll take that 5% unemployment over the 15% we are dealing with now!! Go Scott Brown!!The tide is turning…

Really? Bush and Brown have a ton in common. This is just not politically accurate.

Right…George Bush was a great president. I think that would make you clinically insane. If I remember correctly, Obama came into office with a poor economy.

Hey Jack, Bush came into office on the heels of the Clinton Pelosi mortgage debacle headed into the war that Monica missiles started. So what’s your point?
