This afternoon I spoke with Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Mike Shields from the NRCC during a blogger conference call. Obviously, the big topic was the election of Scott Brown last night. But they wanted to pass along a warning – this fight is not over yet. McCarthy promised that Republicans in the House will continue to fight the health care battle and the democrats’ liberal agenda.
I asked about NY25 and it doesn’t look like anyone is on their radar yet. (Hint, hint.) But McCarthy mentioned that Richard Hanna officially announced he will run against Michael Arcuri in NY 24. They’re waiting to see if we can get some decent candidates for Governor and Senator before making any predictions about New York. (Speaking of New York, Doug Hoffman released a new poll showing he can win a Republican primary in NY23.)
Mike Shields has higher hopes for the rest of the country. With so many retirements and recruitment of some fresh faces, he believes the Republicans can pick up quite a few seats in November. They pointed out that the Democrats have served up a “menu of issues” for the GOP to use in congressional races. Take your pick: cap and trade, health care, the budget, jobs and debt. The list goes on and on, but we had a limited amount of time to cover everything.
One last bit of useful information: Scott Brown raised $12 million on line, which shows that we the people can stand up and fight the special interests, one small donation at a time.

We might not be able to stop Andrew Cuomo (of course he’s running) but we just might be able to pick up a Senate seat. Any Scott Browns’ out there?

I don’t know. I keep checking – will have to get back to you on that. Perhaps the Brown win will light a fire under someone.
