Palin Turned Down CPAC Invitation

By

Again, I’m just shaking my head, saying “I don’t know.” If I had a choice between a tea party convention and CPAC, I do believe I would choose CPAC. I’m not comfortable with how this is playing out.

Jumping in Pools addressed this earlier, and in light of this news it’s worth a second look.

With the 2010 congressional elections in November, just ten months from now, Tea Partiers are acting more like political separatists to the Conservative movement - instead of a uniting force against our socialistic democratic counterparts, who we all want to defeat from power. There are numerous political parties who claim “Conservative ideals”, however, just one can defeat the Democrats, restore freedom & Capitalism, and guarantee a strong National defense – The Republican Party.

We need a strong and robust opposition to Democratic candidates in November, joining forces as Conservative Republicans dedicated to defeating our political foes, while upholding the United States Constitution should be our desire, not sowing the seeds of political discontent, and failure. …..

I’ve been to the tea parties in my area. Here’s just one of my many posts. But I can’t continue to support a movement that could end up strengthening what the movement is supposed to be against. I’m starting to get mad. I’m starting to believe that the Tea Party movement has been taken over by opportunists.

Folks, I’m on a journey here. I’m learning as I go along. All I know is, nothing seems right these days. And this whole Tea Party for Profit doesn’t seem right either.

Some bloggers on the right have no love for David Keene. But as Riehl World View pointed out, David Keene is a part time chairman who isn’t involved in the day-to-day workings of CPAC. His biggest crime was pointing out that Sarah Palin had a little homework to do. Hardly earth shattering.

I just have so many reservations. I loathe the way the MSM treats the Tea Partiers, but I’m afraid I may start loathing what the Tea Partiers have become.

I knew what I was getting with Barack Obama and the democrats. I have to say, I had no idea what I was getting with the “grass roots” Tea Party movement. This doesn’t do anything to calm my nerves.

  1. i agree. she’s been skirting the fence for a while, but if she’s going to break to the fringe right, she’s going to destroy whatever gains we’ve made by the extremist policies of Obama… this sucks…

    Is CPAC the fringe right?

Conservatives don’t have much of a voice on the national level.

Talk Radio and Cable TV don’t count.

We need a leader with vision as well as core values. One who can espouse conservativism without preaching.

I like Sarah but I’m not yet convinced she’s it.

BESIDES: We don’t need conservatives, liberal or moderates….we need CONSTITUTIONALISTS. We’ve gotten too far away from it.

  3. I totally agree with Sam Adams. We need candidates who will adhere to the constitution. As of right now I can only think of maybe two or three in D.C whom I know adhere to that divine document.

The Republican Party requires MANY changes in order to be a unifying voice for all of these tea party attendees. The main change being a candidate and a platform that is actually strictly constitutional and does not just provide shallow lip service. The first test should be to strike down any candidate who supported TARP. The second test should be to only give support to those who loudly and actively spoke out against it from day one. The list is pretty small.

I knew the opportunists would hop on the Tea Party bandwagon early on, when Newt Gingrich spoke at the second TP in NYC. It worries me too. We must take back the Republican party, we don’t need a third party. Palin is OK, but I don’t want her in office.

  6. Kate says:

I’ve noticed the change in the TP movement myself. I now just get emails asking for money. As for Palin, I like her. I just don’t know what her plan are.

  7. Mr.K says:

The Tea Party movement is acting more like their own political party, than a massive movement or organization, which would screw us all – their asking for delegates from around the Nation for their upcoming convention….

    • Just to set the record straight for anyone who thinks the Tea Party Movement might become a third party, there is not truth to it all. I found this:

      “Dear Fellow Tea Party Patriots,

There is much talk of the formation of a third political party based on the tea party movement. In Florida, a Democratic operative with absolutely no connection to the tea party movement has filed papers to form a third party called the Florida Tea Party. He has issued legal threats against local tea parties demanding that they cease using the name “Florida Tea Party.”

Tea Party Patriots is issuing this statement in order to make it clear that we are not associated with this, or any attempts to form a third party. Additionally, we believe that such efforts are unproductive and unwise at this time. The history of third party movements in this country is one of division and defeat. We believe that it is instead time for all Americans to rise up and demand appropriate reform within their own parties. The mechanisms exist for citizens to participate in their parties, and to drive their parties in the right direction.

The Tea Party Patriots encourage all citizens to get involved in the party process, and to reshape their parties into something in which they may once again believe. This country does not belong to any one party, nor does it belong to the career politicians. This country belongs to the citizens. As Benjamin Franklin once said, “We have given you a republic madam, if you can keep it.” The founders knew that it would be our sacred obligation as citizens to get involved, and to work hard to hold on to this great nation. We have much work to do, and future generations will look back in judgment. We hope you will join us in preserving the republic. You are the heart and soul of the Tea Party Movement. Thank you for promoting the causes of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free markets with us!

That weasel, Steve Schmidt will be on “60 Minutes” this Sunday. Maybe his connection with the GOP, if he still has one, has something to do with her decisions. The GOP should dump any connection with this guy. Sarah saved his boy McCain from a humiliating drubbing, and all he does is blame her for everything, and pick on her after all this time. Why doesn’t he just shut up! Speaking of people who are dividing the GOP.

  10. Sam Adams says:

    Two things:

    1. CPAC isn’t fringe…that was a lame joke (OUCH!)

    2. The Tea parties I’ve been to were bi-partisan demonstrations against Big Gov’t's Big Spending.

    IMO it is a movement…NOT a party.

While the Repubs are closest to these ideals, in the right locations a “Tea Party” Dem can get elected.

I predict as elections come around a WHOLE BUNCH of politicos will SUDDENLY take on the mantle of fiscal responsibility.

    What’s that saying about lips moving……… ???

  11. Soldier4110 says:

Bottom line: If you wish to get rid of this terrifying government we’re dealing with now, vote Republican. Otherwise you, yourself, are dooming us to two more years of the same. I recognize there are RINO’s involved here, but they are few and far between. Those who vote Third Party are dooming us to more of the same thing we’ve got now because they will split the conservative vote. I’ve been praying all along for the Lord to heal the Republican Party. He is in charge and always will be. Perhaps he allowed this scenario to come about to wake us up to the dangers of Democrats, no matter what stripe they are. After all, Clinton sold to China all the technology they have now. Vote Republican.

Not true. Our last President and Presidential candidate supported and voted for TARP. What is few and far between are true constitutional conservatives in the Republican Party.
