Last night the mouse connected to my laptop stopped working, I tried plugging into all the ports, but none of them worked. The mouse is old, so I went out today and bought a new wireless mouse. I still had the same problem. I checked the Windows support site, and did what seemed like a thousand different things they recommended. Nothing worked. Finally, after hours of frustration, while scrolling through countless forums on the subject, someone wrote to simply unplug the device. Since it was my laptop, I unplugged it and then removed the battery. After 5 seconds I reattached the battery, plugged the laptop into the outlet, restarted and voila! The USB ports and the mouse were working again. If only I hadn’t wasted hours on all those useful “fixes” brought to me by the experts.
In short, if you’re USB ports suddenly stop working, try unplugging the device first. You just may save yourself a few hours of frustration.
Now I can get back to blogging!
