Brilliant Legal Scholar Clueless as to Difference Between Liability and Collision Insurance

I missed this yesterday, but Jimmie Bise picked up on it.

The “Lecturer in Chief” was giving a little lesson to his “students” during the health care dog and pony show summit, using an alleged story from his own past.

When I was young, just got out of college, I had to buy auto insurance. I had a beat-up old car. And I won’t name the name of the insurance company, but there was a company — let’s call it Acme Insurance in Illinois. And I was paying my premiums every month. After about six months I got rear-ended and I called up Acme and said, I’d like to see if I can get my car repaired, and they laughed at me over the phone because really this was set up not to actually provide insurance; what it was set up was to meet the legal requirements. But it really wasn’t serious insurance.

Now, it’s one thing if you’ve got an old beat-up car that you can’t get fixed. It’s another thing if your kid is sick, or you’ve got breast cancer.

Do you really feel comfortable having this man re-work health insurance in America? He doesn’t know the difference between auto liability and collision insurance, for crying out loud. Had he known the difference, he would have put in a claim with the insurance company of the guy who rear-ended him. On the other hand, he probably does know the difference, but feels perfectly comfortable making things up in order to make a point. He’s either stupid or he’s a liar. Either way, why would you trust him with anything as precious as, say, your life?

Check out Jimmie’s blog – The Sundries Shack. What a nice guy. I got to CPAC late last week and he made me feel right at home on Bloggers Row.

If you’ve never had to pay attention and shop to purchase car insurance you’d never know. Maybe Barry never owned a car, or one good enough to put collision on. Enquiring minds would like to know.

So what the hell am I supposed to take away from this little fable of his?

GRRRR! I’ll get you, insurance companies, if it’s the last thing I ever do!!

Even if I agreed with him on healthcare, I’d have to say that’s a pretty crap-tastic basis for policy.

Didn’t he have some fable about requiring Americans to pay into 0bamacare like they already are required to for auto insurance? Umm….begging your pardon, Ear Leader, but people who live in big cities where it costs a small fortune just to secure a reliable parking spot don’t even bother with a car and insted take the bus, taxi, ferry, commuter train, subway, El, BART, T, streetcar or whatever.

That allegory also made one wonder if illegal immigrants, already flouting our immigration laws to various degrees, bother with the niceties of thigns like car insurance….

    Michigan,

Are you giving Big Ears the benefit of the doubt?

Educated at Harvard look down his nose Big Ears?

    He gets NONE with me.

Car insurance ISN’T either broken or a “problem” in this country. Why hold it up like it is?

What needs “fixing” is people’s attitudes. The something for nothing entitlement crowd needs to be cut off.

The other people should pay for my healthcare just because I’m breathing crowd needs the same treatment.

IMO: Too many politicians pander to freeloaders and the unions.

LOL! I’d never give him any benefit Sam. I meant to be a bit sarcastic in pointing out his complete disconnect with normal responsibilities of most American daily functions, not enhancing those on WIC or other programs. His base is mostly the “takers” and the not invested or motivated in society.
