Flashback 2005: Obama and Democrats Whine About Reconciliation

I heard they were talking about voting on judicial appointments. They weren’t talking about something as big as taking over one sixth of the US economy and wrecking the best health care in the world.

I love the “tyranny of the majority” line. And notice how they were calling it the “nuclear option” back then. Today it’s “reconciliation.” What a bunch of loathsome hypocrites.

Are you actually this stupid? You do realize there’s a difference between reconcilitation and the nuclear option, right?

Oh I see a progressive showed up.

Their standard reply to most things they dont agree with is to:

    Wait for it……………..

    Saul Alinsky

Rule 5: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It’s hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.

According to Alinsky, the main job of the organizer is to bait an opponent into reacting. “The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength.”

Notice how Not Likely uses classic Alinsky rather then to just point out what he believes to be the difference between Reconcilliation and the Nuclear Option.

When you do this……you fail at Rule 10: The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. Avoid being trapped by an opponent or an interviewer who says, “Okay, what would you do?”

The person here simply attacks, casts doubt on the post and then moves on without rebutting anything. It is what progressives do and they have become masters at this tactic.

Try addressing my point next time. Do you recognize the difference between reconciliation and the nuclear option or not?

Not Likely, why don’t you explain to us the difference between the nuclear option and reconciliation. You’ve hopped around to every blog with a post about this and dropped the same comment. So, tell us how this situation is totally different from what happened in 2005.

Remember what I posted a few days ago. The progressives are laying the ground work for the Nuke option aka reconcilliation for the health care bill which will include the public option.

They are doing this all over the internet right now. They want to Alinskize the debate. Right now they are demonizing the fillibuster and trying to use historical evidence to show that what we have been doing for the last 210 years…….IS WRONG….and the founders didnt really mean it…….and that a simple majority is all that is needed and essentially its the tyranny of the majority in full play now by the progressives as they lay the ground work for using the Nuke Option to force upon Americans that which THEY DO NOT WANT.

With or without the ridicule, Not Likely is right. Reconciliation and the “nuclear option” are two very different situations.

Ok so far no one has explained the difference between the nuclear option and budget reconciliation. However, all of the news channels, including the frantic MSNBC, have admitted the budget reconciliation is the nuclear option, because it goes around our constitutional checks and balances of the filibuster.

So please, “Not Likely” and “JL25and3″, apparently you know of a difference that no one else on the planet knows, so please explain the difference…or obviously your posts will be flagrant foolishness…..

“The nuclear option is more than a “parliamentary trick”. It’s literally changing the rules in the middle of a game. The nuclear option would have stopped all filibusters going forward on specific topics. Reconciliation is an established part of Senate rules – much like the filibuster, which I do not hear anyone arguing against.”

By the way, the U.S. does not have the best healthcare in the world. According to the UN, we are 37th, snugly between Cuba and Costa Rica. The U.S. is number one with respect to one category relating to healthcare: cost.

“Right now they are demonizing the fillibuster and trying to use historical evidence to show that what we have been doing for the last 210 years…….IS WRONG….and the founders didnt really mean it…….and that a simple majority is all that is needed and essentially its the tyranny of the majority in full play now by the progressives as they lay the ground work for using the Nuke Option to force upon Americans that which THEY DO NOT WANT.”

I realize that divining the intent of the founders from tea leaves is a past time for rightwingers, but I prefer to look at the actual actions of individuals. The founders regarded the filibuster as a last ditch tactic to be used sparingly, if ever. It was literally rarely used before the Civil Rights Acts of the 60s; even in the 60s it was used, tops, 30 times a year. As a result they changed the rule to get cloture from 67 to 60. In the last year, Republicans have filibuster-ed HUNDREDS of times. This is clearly NOT the intent of the founders.
