Dan Maffei
Rep. Dan Maffei (D-NY) is calling for Governor David Paterson to cancel his campaign for governor. (We can’t call it a re-election campaign, since Paterson wasn’t elected as governor.)
The Syracuse Post Standard: U.S. Rep. Dan Maffei, D-DeWitt, said today that Gov. David Paterson should halt his campaign and exit the governor’s race after reports of a domestic abuse complaint against one of his top aides.
“I think the governor from now on should avoid all politics and focus on governing the state,” Maffei told The Post-Standard.
The freshman Democrat said the domestic violence charges surrounding one of Paterson’s top aides, David Johnson, and other developments in recent weeks have become too much of a distraction for the governor to continue his campaign.
“This situation is so disturbing, to try to do a political campaign in the midst of this investigation does not make sense,” Maffei said. “It’s like some kind of horrific mini-series. You couldn’t make up this kind of drama…from (former Gov. Eliot) Spitzer’s fall to (former state Senate Majority Leader Joe) Bruno’s fall to now this.”He added, “We don’t need to just turn a page on this, we need a whole new book.”
Maffei’s been calling for Paterson to cancel his campaign since last fall. I only wish he’d take his own advice. In the case of Maffei he should step aside because he’s an incompetent, Keynesian puppet of Nancy Pelosi. I suppose the same could be said for Paterson, you know, without the Pelosi part.
Governor Paterson isn’t taking Maffei’s advice.
Update: Dan Maffei isn’t the only Democrat urging Governor Paterson to suspend his campaign. More on that here.
