Here we go again.
AP: Stocks slide on unexpected rise in jobless claims
… Claims for unemployment benefits rose by 8,000 to 480,000 last week, the Labor Department reported, disappointing investors who had hoped for a drop. It was the fourth increase in the past five weeks. The number of lost jobs was the highest in two months and upended a sense that claims would resume a decline that occurred in the fall and early winter.
The report chilled expectations that the government’s January jobs report, due Friday, would show that employers added workers in the first month of the year. Analysts currently expect Friday report to show that employers added 5,000 jobs in January, but also that the unemployment rate ticked up to 10.1 percent from 10 percent. …
This is just getting silly. Jobs will start coming back when we get the big spending “economic planners” out of Washington DC.

That’s wierd….I thought part of the reason the DJI managed to go back above 10,000 points in the last few months was because the bad jobs & economy news had already been factored into most companies earnings reports.
I think this is more the market is reacting to 0bama’s jihad against various financial institutions and now….Toyota Motors.

I’ve been meaning to get to Toyota for two days now. So much statism and thuggery, so little time.

It honestly would not surprise me to learn that the DOT and Congress was pressuring Toyota extra-hard during normal legislative sessions, but then contacting somebody on the down-low and urging them to buy shares of Toyota while publicly hammering away at the company….then in the next few week,s the problem is magically resolved, Toyota’s stock recovers and the Gov’t crows about how they stepped in & ‘helped’ Toyota owners from a defect the company was apparently on its way to fixing themselves without much gov’t and regulatory intervention.

Who knows what they’re up to. I just posted a link and an excerpt to a good piece by the Washington Examiner. It sounds like they’re just trying to pay back the unions and help out GM. Thugs.
