Democrats Ignore Blue State Lessons

Gee, one might think the progressives running our federal government would look to the states for a lesson on how their policies will play out.

Forbes: Want to know which states are in the worst financial condition? One telling indicator that might not immediately come to mind is whether most of its citizens identify themselves as Democrats.

The five states in the worst financial condition–Illinois, New York, Connecticut, California and New Jersey–are all among the bluest of blue states. The five most fiscally fit states are more of a mix. Three–Utah, Nebraska and Texas–boast Republican majorities and two–New Hampshire and Virginia–skew Democratic.

Forbes’ metrics for each state included unfunded pension liabilities, changes in tax revenue, credit ratings, debt as a percentage of Gross State Product, debt per capita, growth expectations for employment and the state economy, net migrations and a “moocher ratio” that compares government employees, pension burdens and Medicaid enrollees to private-sector employment.

The bluest of blue states are drowning in red ink. It’s a fiscal disaster that the DC Democrats are repeating at the national level.

On health care, they need to look no farther than Massachusetts for a glimpse of what’s to come when they ram through ObamaCare.

The Wall Street Journal: Natural experiments are rare in politics, but few are as instructive as the prototype for ObamaCare that Massachusetts set in motion in 2006. The bills for “universal coverage” are now coming due, and it appears the state political class is prepared to do lasting damage to one of America’s top-flight health-care systems.

Last month, Democratic Governor Deval Patrick landed a neutron bomb, proposing hard price controls across almost all Massachusetts health care. State regulators already have the power to cap insurance premiums, which Mr. Patrick is activating. He also filed a bill that would give state regulators the power to review the rates of hospitals, physician groups and some specialty providers. Those that are deemed too high “shall be presumptively disapproved.”

Mr. Patrick ad-libbed that he had “a whole bunch of pals here who are in the health-care field, and I saw the color drain out of their faces.” Little wonder. The administered prices of Medicare and Medicaid already shift costs to private patients while below-cost reimbursement creates balance-sheet havoc among providers. Now the governor wants to import these distortions to save the state’s heavily subsidized insurance program as costs explode.

Insurance premiums are climbing faster in Massachusetts than in any other state.

Surely the Democrats know all of this, and they don’t care. It begs the question: why? Call me paranoid, but the Cloward-Piven strategy is the only thing that comes to mind.

    The Dems/Libs/Progs are idiots.

They are driven by an agenda learned in the bubble of academia and nutured by the elite ruling class who rarely have exposure to the “little people.”

Instead of taking economics in college and having REAL jobs after they fill their heads with mush and work in positions that have to produce nothing.

They haven’t a clue on what it’s like to make payroll.

They think a government job is a job created…even though it produces nothing and relies on those who actually produce in the private sector for the funds to pay the wages of these “jobs.”

They think largess should come from the government and are expert at spending other people’s money. After all it’s for the children or some other feel good nonsense.

Nope, if things keep going like they are, we’ll be Euro trash soon enough.

I posted elsewhere on this site and have been posting all over the internet for months that the agenda of this administration and his progressive supporters is to:

Create unfunded mandates on the STATES. MEDICAIDE……..yep you got it…thats what BEN NELSON recognized right off the bat and he realized the devestation that 300 million dollars could do to his states budget….

Create this crisis in the states budgets by forcing them to INSURE ANOTHER 45,000,000 people WITHOUT the FEDS giving them a dime to cover these costs……..

And then………and then when the states are reeling under unsustainable financial burdens they will turn to the feds who will then step in with…..with…….UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE and SAVE THEM.

And the people will go YAY!!

CREATE A CRISIS……..offer to solve the CRISIS….its the only way progressives know how to govern.

As I have stated many times….I believe personally that our federal government today would be ruled UNCONSTITUTIONAL by the founding fathers if you could lay out its powers before them in some form of see into the future exercise.

They would have been horrified at what they saw and the constitution would have been 1 million pages long to curb the abuses of a government GONE WILD that they sought to prevent with the careful crafting of the document known as the “CONSTITUTION”.
