Do We Deserve What We’re About to Get?

Do the majority of Americans deserve the train wreck that’s headed our way?

Big Government: I sometimes wonder if Americans really have any idea of the scope of the danger facing this country. I also wonder if they don’t deserve the disaster that is coming.

Americans loudly focus their anger on the President, who is seeking to profoundly alter the structure and nature of the United States. But they cannot let themselves off the hook; they elected this man, after all, and by a wide margin.

Remember, Barack Obama had long kept company with loathsome men overflowing with hatred for the United States. His associates included an anti-American, unrepentant terrorist (Bill Ayers) and a deranged, anti-American preacher (Reverend Wright). And Obama’s own stated economic philosophy is confiscatory redistributionist – “spread the wealth around,” as he so forthrightly put it.

All of this was known in 2008. And Americans elected him anyway. And now they whine and complain that this man attempting to socialize the republic? What a thoroughly unserious people – if you stick your head in the gaping maw of a ravenous lion, you would be a fool to complain when it closes its jaws. It is the nature of lions to devour flesh; it is the nature of socialists to devour liberty.

And there is another culprit who must not escape blame.

The Republican Party, which botched a war – a just war – so badly that it made a leftist “community organizer” seem like presidential material. The Party which acquiesced to massive government expansions at the expense of liberty throughout the 20th Century; the New Deal, the Great Society, untold bloated federal programs which shamefully betray Republican fingerprints, programs which have habituated Americans to a certain amount of socialism in their society, including socialism in our health care.

And now the GOP makes a stand? Now it draws a line?

Sadly, I would have to say yes, yes we do deserve what we’re getting. Some of us are more culpable than others, but a good many of us – myself included – are to blame.

Come on, how many of you have an elderly parent or grandparent who benefited from the Medicare drug program? I know, many of us weren’t around, or at least weren’t voting when Medicare was enacted. It’s not a voluntary program, so why not get prescriptions out of it? Obviously, the correct answer is that we couldn’t afford it in the first place. That being said, I wasn’t for it, but I didn’t start a blog or a Tea Party to protest it, either. I was complacent.

And as for the Republicans – stop asking Republicans to be bipartisan! Why tell them we want them to be “moderate” and “electable.” Look where that got us! How did John McCain do? We allow the media to tell us who is “moderate” and “electable!” Moderate is what got into this mess. Bipartisanship is no better than one party rule.

But it goes beyond that. It’s a populace that’s totally complacent. The people I know, whether they’re Democrat or Republican, are largely uninformed. (A few of you know I’m not referring to you;) )

Take, for example, the other day something that happened at work. A co-worker put a petition in may hand and told me to sign it. It had to do with removing co-payments for a certain medical treatment. I mumbled something and handed it off to someone else, hoping nobody would notice. (I don’t get paid at work to argue politics, so I avoid it as much as possible.)

The next day, I overheard the “petition” co-worker talking about another co-worker who refused to sign it, citing fears of rising health insurance premiums.  Needless to say, nothing nice was said about the one person who refused to sign the petition. Heaven knows what they said about me. But the thing that shocked me the most – the people who I know call themselves “conservative” signed the petition no questions asked! I just shook my head, almost in despair.

Day in and day out I listen to more chatter about Hollywood and movies and TV shows than I can stand. Sure, a little is fine, a nice diversion. But that’s all they talk about! Oh, that, and gossip. Can you imagine if they had Hollywood, cable TV, iPods, etc. back in the early 1770s? I guess we’d be speaking German or Japanese right now. After Europe was conquered one or the other would have taken over the British colonies. Or we could be speaking Russian or Chinese. But hey, if we keep this up, perhaps one day we’ll revert back and be colonies of China. Now that sounds like a great future.

We keep hearing that if we don’t know history we’re doomed to repeat it. What are we doomed to if we don’t know current events? I mean no offense to my friends and co-workers. I really do love these people, I only wish they would show a little more interest in what’s happening to their country. I try to gently “nudge” them when the moments are right, but again, I’m there to do a job and not argue politics.

Who knows, some of my “conservative” friends who know about this blog might think I’m nuts. The liberals who don’t know about it would surely think I’m crazy if they found out. But if they do think I’m the one that’s crazy, how will they answer when I ask “Why do I care more about your kids’ future than you do?”

I manage to find time to raise my kids, go to their games, help with homework, do laundry, clean the house, work a full time job and help my husband with his business and still stay informed enough to keep up this blog. Can’t they at least take a few minutes a day to find out what’s happening to their country? Is that too much to ask of my fellow citizens?

Yes, there have been many times Americans should have stopped the Progressives/Marxists in their tracks. FDR’s crap, the Board of Education, eminent domain, etc. The list is endless. Now it’s up to all of us to turn back all this statist crap!!

    Do we deserve this? Really?

Sadly, I’d have to say yes.

You get the government you vote for. And NOT vote for.

Between those who voted for these thugs, those who didn’t vote, and those who allowed our education system to indoctrinate our youth with Progressive ideals…yes we as a people deserve it.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
