Get Ready for the Pizza Tax!

How long do you think it will be until politicians start pushing a pizza tax? Why, they could kill two birds with one tax – raise revenues to continue their spending orgy while exerting more control over people’s lives.

Reuters: Duffey’s team analyzed the diets and health of 5,115 young adults aged age 18 to 30 from 1985 to 2006.

They compared data on food prices during the same time. Over a 20-year period, a 10 percent increase in cost was linked with a 7 percent decrease in the amount of calories consumed from soda and a 12 percent decrease in calories consumed from pizza.

The team estimates that an 18 percent tax on these foods could cut daily intake by 56 calories per person, resulting in a weight loss of 5 pounds (2 kg) per person per year.

“Our findings suggest that national, state or local policies to alter the price of less healthful foods and beverages may be one possible mechanism for steering U.S. adults toward a more healthful diet,” Duffey and colleagues wrote.

Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

“The percentage of taxes on GDP (in Pakistan) is among the lowest in the world… We (the United States) tax everything that moves and doesn’t move, and that’s not what we see in Pakistan,”
      - Hillary Clinton

Notice how they never propose a tax on designer handbags vaip Paris-Hilton-types carry their chihuahua in, a filet mignon tax, a fancy Italian high-heel tax or or a new set of titanium golf-clubs tax.

NOOOOO…..it’s always a tax on things like cigarettes, beer, pizza, soda or snack foods that’s being proposed or passed. Hmmm….let’s think about this for a minute: What economic demographic would be hardest hit by that….the Richie-Rich types that us right-wingers are often accused of being (when we aren’t violent trailer-park dwelling, heavily-armed anti-government extremists) or the middle class, blue collar and the poor?

Cripes….even in 0bamacare, when they proposed a tax or tax increase on cosmetic surgeries and procedures like botox injections, they scrapped that for a tax on tanning salons instead. Now granted, I think tanning salons are pretty dumb myself, but again….what economic demographic woould be the hardest hit between the two?

They’re even talking about a tax on the sale of bullion and precious metals in Washington State. At first blush, this might sound like a punitive tax against the wealthy, but alot of working class and older people distrust investment vehicles like the stock market, Certificates of deposit or bonds and will invest in precious medals instead. This would accomplish nothing but drive coin shops out of business once their customers circumvent the tax by purchasing their bullion out of state or online.
