This surely puts the big spending Democrats in quite the pickle. As for the Republicans, better late than never.
The Hill: House Republicans approved a conference-wide moratorium on earmarks on Thursday, one day after a House committee enacted a ban on for-profit earmarks.
The Republicans’ moratorium is more extensive than the House Appropriations Committee’s ban in that it applies to all earmarks for all members of the caucus.
The moratorium was passed via a “strong” voice vote, according to Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas), who participated in the nearly two-hour-long conference meeting.
Republicans had discussed enacting a ban in the last Congress, but a vote never materialized.
A number of Democrats and Republicans have undertaken efforts to rein in so-called “pork-barrel” spending in recent days, sparking a battle between the parties over who can best reform the earmark process.
It’s high time earmarks come to an end. Dreadful politicians are reelected if they’re able to bring home the bacon. It’s like undeclared campaign cash, paid for by the taxpayers in every state. Or future taxpayers, you know, since so much of what they spend is borrowed.

Now we need to cut all the socialist parasites from Medicare and Social Security and we’ll be getting somewhere.

But if they won’t be allowed to promise to bring home the pork, what reason will they give the voters to vote for them? Their intelligence? Their honesty? Their knowledge of the issues? Their statesmanship? Of course! Why haven’t we thought of that before?
