Mike Arcuri Announces He’ll Vote ‘No’ on ObamaCare – Local Media Would Have You Believe CNY Wants This – OFA AstroTurfs Local Paper

Mike Arcuri (D-NY) announced he will vote no on ObamaCare. (Audio below)

9WSYR “I didn’t come to this decision lightly.  In the last few weeks, I have received tens of thousands of phone calls, faxes and emails from families and senior citizens – all telling me how they feel about health care reform.  I’ve spoken with hundreds of people in grocery stores, at community events, and at my Congressional offices.  I have talked to small business owners from Herkimer to Geneva who desperately needs health care reform but, uniformly, they tell me this new proposal will hurt them and their employees across the board.  I’ve listened to my constituents and have heard their concerns clearly.

“And after several meetings and conversations with the President, Speaker of the House, Administration officials and colleagues, I am not convinced enough changes can be made to the Senate health care bill to meet the needs of the people in my district.

“My opposition to this health care reform package is based on three items that I feel are essential if we hope to make insurance affordable for those who don’t have it and lower costs for those who do have it.

  • Doesn’t allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices.
  • Doesn’t remove the anti-trust exemption for insurance companies;
  • Includes an excise tax on high-quality health insurance plans (i.e. Cadillac Plans).

“I am not convinced that after months of listening, studying and debating that the current bill benefits the people in my district in the best possible way, and that’s why I cannot support it.”

As a side note, Arcuri’s district is covered in part by the media here where I live, in NY25. In fairness to Arcuri, this had to have been a difficult decision. The local media has been taking their talking points from the Dan Maffei camp. I’ve heard on several newscasts, and read in the local rag that Maffei’s office has received hundreds of phone calls from outside the district. Maffei contends that we, his constituents, want the government to take over our health care. I haven’t done a poll, but nobody I’ve talked to wants any part of this. Oh, except for the folks from Organizing for America and the SEIU. They rallied today to tell Dan Maffei “thank you” for announcing his vote to destroy health care in America. Tea Partiers found out late yesterday, and were only able to rustle up a few dozen to counter protest. I spoke to someone who was there and he said the purple shirts were well represented, and he guessed there were 70 or 80 OFAs, while the rag reported there were one hundred. Read one of the rag’s editorials and you can figure out why.

Speaking of Organizing for America, Obama put out the call for them to flood the newspapers with letters. Plagiarized letters, to boot. Sure enough, the local rag is more than happy to reprint those letters. I guess their editorial department isn’t as strict as they say they are.

That’s what we’re dealing with here in Central New York.
