If the Democrats’ dreadful health care legislation passes scores of doctors could go Galt.
CNS News: More than 29 percent (29.2) percent of the nearly 1,200 doctors who responded to the survey said they would quit the profession or retire early if health reform legislation becomes law. If a public option were included in the legislation, as several liberal Senators have indicated they would like, the number would jump to 45.7 percent.
The medical journal published the results in its March and April edition, saying: “While a sudden loss of half of the nations physicians seems unlikely, a very dramatic decrease in the physician workforce could become a reality as an unexpected side effect of health reform.”
Kevin Perpetua, managing partner for the Medicus Firm, reported that a reform bill could be “the final straw” in an already financially precarious industry.
“Many physicians feel that they cannot continue to practice if patient loads increase while pay decreases,” Perpetua said in the study. “The overwhelming prediction from physicians is that health reform, if implemented inappropriately, could create a detrimental combination of circumstances, and result in an environment in which it is not possible for most physicians to continue practicing medicine.”
It’s even worse with family physicians.
Primary-care physicians, those who work in the critical fields of family and internal medicine, not only feel that they would want to quit but that they might be cast out of medicine. 46.3 percent of those physicians said that they would either want to leave medicine or that they would be “forced out” by the changes to the system.
What a disaster! Obama recently promised free visits to family physicians. So millions of Americans will be trying to get their “free” health care while physicians will be quitting. Who do they think will be treating these people?
Update: Sorry, I forgot the link above. You can see the full poll results here. Via memeorandum.

Yakov Smirnof used to tell jokes about living in the (former) Soviet Union.
One was:
“They pretend to pay us and we pretend to work.”
Not a good thing when it comes to healthcare.

I think a lot of Americans will start going Galt by the time Obama, Pelosi and Reid are through with us.

Between those that CAN go Gault and those that will rush to sign up for more gov’t services, those of us who work hard and pay taxes will get slammed.
What if we stopped paying taxes……..hmmmmm ???

That sounds like a pretty effective method of civil disobedience.
When the paychecks stop showing up, the people whose job it is to get those funds will stop showing up to work.
This is one of the reasons why I’m conflicted when it comes to what sphere I want to work in when I get my CPA and possibly CFE. Do I want to work for the gov’t (namely the SEC or FTC) and nail thieves and the irresponsible to the cross, or do I want to go into the private sector and insure that my clients pay the least taxes possible to those who rule without the consent of the governed.
Money and finance are my passions, and I would like to achieve good for the American people while pursuing them.

I don’t think there is any question that if this bill passes scores of doctors will chose not to participate. Why should they? They can simply get together and form their own groups and only accept cash paying patients. Lets face it if this passes you’ll rarely even see a doctor during an office visit all you’ll see are nurses and PA’s Doctors will be at hospitials and out patient clinics. Govt. rates will be too low. Govt. take over of healthcare I never thought it would happen.

“They can simply get together and form their own groups and only accept cash paying patients.”
This is why I’m fast-tracking my education as a CPA and studying the methods of international criminals like Victor Bout (the Lord of War). If I have to spend my life building a system to subvert an unjust gov’t just to save American lives, I know I can do it and stay out of prison.

Just goes to show you how brilliant the Left thinks they are, in theory they all think that everyone will have coverage, but the question is what quality of coverage, when we have limited quality doctors, there definitely be “rationing”, it’s not fear language it’s basic math, add and subtract. Well they got there Health Care, there goes all the Doctors, and here comes the “rationing”.

My boss, a liberal and proud Obamabot, remarked that “At least everyone will get care. Not good care–but care”. To my face. I said well, yes, that is good enough for the little people….are you going to give up that Concierge doctor to whom you pay a retainer to always be available for you and your wife? Are you going to let him go and get in line with the rest of us, the unwashed masses? No, I thought not. Liberal benevolence is all about their own egos. They don’t care about the little people. They only care about demonstrating to others, and proving to others, that THEY aren’t “little people”; THEY are special.
I’m grateful I just had a serious surgery before this ever came to a vote. I’ve seen socialized medicine up close and personal… any doctor with any intelligence and talent should retire. I know of several who are already putting that in to place. They’re not waiting to be led to slaughter. Good for them.

The best reform plan out there:
http://heyteachkp.web.officelive.com
It provides: tort reform; creates more well-qualified doctors and nurses in short order; guarantees current Social Security recipients are covered in full (as well as those who will go on in the next decade); ends government mandates in insurance; ends need for
employers to provide health care to employees; provides for a way that in 20 years (and the legislation sunsets if done as described) there will be no “need” for Social Security or Medicare. It also reforms malpractice insurance, disability insurance, and provides a
PRIVATE insurance option to replace Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, and high-risk insurance pools as those government programs are abolished, so that none of the most vulnerable in society are sacrificed as we return to a truly Constitutional government. There is a way to lower prescription drug costs now and in the future while providing a decent profit to the companies that need funds for R&D for new offerings.
This plan would provide a true free market with competition among providers and competition among insurers (who are selling across state lines without government mandates). There will be profits and protection for all, but done the right way: quality products and services offered in a free market with rule of law restored. By taking the waste (government regulations) out and by removing hurdles in health care delivery, we will see prices drop. Take a quick look at the price of LASIK over the last decade if you wonder if that is possible.
