This woman’s husband works for Coca-Cola and she’s not happy with Mayor Nutter’s soda tax. I don’t think she was satisfied with his answers. Neither was I – typical liberal response – higher taxes are the answer to all of our troubles.

From a public health standpoint it makes a lot of sense to place a tax on coke and pepsi. Our children are obese, diabetes is rampant, people aren’t getting their nutrients and are overdosing on high fructose corn syrup.
The “free market” has made our population addicted to an unhealthy product because companies like coke and pepsi have the marketing and distribution abilities to out-muscle everything in their way. It has NOTHING to do with quality of product. Their product uses cheap ingredients and is already over-priced.
If this urges people to change their consumption behavior I believe this is a good thing. “Liberal” policies like this can have positive effects.

Have you ever heard of personal responsibility? How about moderation?

Children have no developed sense of personal responsibility. They (and their parents) are brainwashed by unhealthy food with massive marketing and budgets. Healthy foods do not have marketing budgets such as these. I saw a dozen dorittos commercials during the Super Bowl and not a single one promoting broccoli.
Large food companies have three options to increase sales each quarter: make us fatter by convincing us to eat more; sell us fancy items that cost more and make us poorer; or make ingredients even cheaper to keep costs down regardless of how it affects the health of our population.
Regardless, no matter who is “responsible”, you are glossing over the fact that obesity and diabetes are at epidemic rates. You seem to be saying that nothing should be done about it except “personal restraint” and “moderation”.

This blog is turning into one of my favorite sites. The information you provide is very good. I appreciate the work you put in it.
On XM radio (America Right channel 166) on Saturdays they have a guy named “Cigar Dave” who talks Cigars and politics from noon till 2 pm EST. Very good show if you have XM radio. He was talking about this tax on soda’s today. He did the calculations on this 2 cents an once tax. On a 12 pack of soda it would end up being somewhere around a 75 percent increase on that 12 pack.
This is insane. The problem is not really with the sodas that are making children obese. Lack of exercise is the real culprit. Video games and over 100 channels of TV is causing children to become addicted to the sofa.
But if you can destroy the free market while claiming you are “SAVING THE CHILDREN”…well go for it I guess.

Thanks, Dan!
Cigar Dave is also on Sirius 144. I think it’s the same time frame.
Funny, isn’t it, how the left never talks about saving the children from the idiots in the federal government destroying their freedom with all of this debt? Being fat will be the least of their worries after this gang is done. Not to mention, soon nobody will be able to afford food.

Um, why were we in debt initially?!
Because of war. Because of an unregulated financial system.
You seem to forget that.
