Pataki Rules Out Run Against Gillibrand

Former New York Governor George Pataki has announced he will not run for the US Senate against Kirsten Gillibrand. This is a bummer. He had a good shot at defeating her. (I would have said “beating” her but didn’t want to be accused of some sort of Freudian slip.)

The Wall Street Journal: Instead, he said in an interview Tuesday that he would create a new national organization aimed at building support to repeal the recently enacted health-care overhaul.

Mr. Pataki’s decision to bypass the Senate race marks another major coup for Ms. Gillibrand, who has been enormously successful in knocking out competition on both sides of the aisle despite appearing to be vulnerable politically. Were he to enter the race, Mr. Pataki would be leading Ms. Gillibrand by 45% to 40%, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.

Mr. Pataki, 64 years old, said he believed his plan to form the organization, called Revere America, would be the ideal way to play a role on the national political stage.

“When you look at what is happening in Washington, it’s just a disaster for our future,” said Mr. Pataki, who served three terms as New York’s chief executive from 1995 through 2006. “It’s just more government spending, more government borrowing, government control over our health-care system.”

The group’s first project will be a national petition drive aimed at gathering one million signatures from those who want to repeal the health-care legislation. Mr. Pataki said Revere America planned to kick off the petition drive in Boston on Sunday, the 235th anniversary of Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride during the American Revolution.

I wish him luck with his project. Hopefully Revere America will use some of the funds they raise to defeat democrats and support conservatives. That’s the quickest way to repeal.

Pataki should have run. Gillibrand could have been beaten and the Senate would have had one more Republican. He can join Revere America after the election if he loses. Even with large gains in the House and Senate, the Republicans are still going to be a minority party in the Senate. Mr. Pataki, the Senate needs you more than Revere America does. Please reconsider.

I agree….he should have run….Revere America sounds good though. I think George has his eyes on a 2012 run and if Revere America is his way of gaining national attention, then he should go for it!
