This is unfortunate.
ABC News: The embattled [RNC] chairman [Michael Steele] played the race card today when asked if he has a slimmer margin of error because he is African American.
“The honest answer is, ‘yes,’” he said on “Good Morning America” today. “Barack Obama has a slimmer margin. A lot of folks do. It’s a different role for me to play and others to play and that’s just the reality of it. But you take that as part of the nature of it.”
“My view on politics is much more grassroots oriented, it’s not old boy network oriented, so I tend to, you know, come at it a little bit stronger, a little bit more street-wise, if you will. That’s rubbed some feathers the wrong way,” Steele told “GMA’s” George Stephanopoulos.
For once I agree with something Robert Gibbs said.
“Well, I think that is a fairly silly comment to make,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters today. “I think Michael Steele’s problem isn’t the race card, it’s the credit card.”
Naturally, the left is having a field day with this.
Michael Steele is the Chairman of the Republican National Committee. They’ve had one stupid scandal after another lately. He’s accountable and it has nothing to do with his race. He ought to be spending his time cleaning up the image of the RNC and not taking a play out of the other side’s book and throwing down the race card.

I was never on the ‘give Steele the boot’ bandwagon, but upon hearing these comments, I might have to reconsider.
The man seems determined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Mr. Steele should resign immediately. He seems to either get trapped into or willingly offers outbursts of wedge statements that don’t represent conservative views. I’d support Liz Cheney as a replacement.

In answer to the title question, I’m guessing that Mr Steele was eager to prove that Independent conservatives are right to avoid the Stupid party as well as the Democratic Socialist party. Seems that he and Johnny Maverick are intent on that goal.
One hopes for a replay of the election of 1856 and the rise of a new party that is as easy to distinguish from the Democrats as the Republicans were in 1856. Being the party of race hatred, greed, and envy the Democrats will last for as long as our Republic is here for them to beshitten.
Fenway_Nation: It isn’t the GOP that will hand the Dems their heads come November, but conservatives. The GOP will stand by and let it happen, mildly interfering as their relevance evaporates.
And, yeah, michigan, I’d support Liz Cheney — if I thought the RNC could absorb the sudden rapid rise in average IQ without developing the intellectual bends.
Conservatives need a party. Soon.

I was a lonely female in a sea of corporate macho men for most of my professional career. I made it a point to never join an organization or even make a speech at an organization that included the name female or woman/women in its title. I considered myself a person and acted upon that belief. Perhaps non-whites in public positions should adhere to that philosophy as well. It served me well. People are people…period, end of divides.

Exactly so.
End of divides and end of divide and conquer as a workable method for tyrants.
