Oil has been spewing into the Gulf of Mexico for 70 days. The well still isn’t plugged. A hurricane is headed toward the Gulf, complicating the clean up efforts, which were already complicated by the federal government’s refusal to accept assistance from other countries. So, what does Obama do? Why, he calls a meeting to push his economy killing cap and tax scheme.
ABC News: In the wake of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, President Obama today summoned a bipartisan group of over 20 senators to the White House to push for energy and climate change legislation.
But one thing the President did not want to talk about at the meeting was the BP disaster, a Republican source told ABC News. And that, the source said, led to a pointed exchange with GOP senator Lamar Alexander from Tennessee.
“The priority should be fixing the oil spill,” Alexander told the President, according to the source. “That’s what any meeting about energy should be about.”
But when Alexander tried to interject the BP leak into the meeting, the source said, the President told the senator, “That’s just your talking point.”
Retorted Alexander, “No, it’s my opinion.”
Plugging the leak is now a “talking point?” Not that I blame him for not wanting to talk about his big donor BP, or his administration’s failure to assist the states in preventing the oil from reaching their shores. But you’d think he would be bragging that finally, after 70 days of blocking efforts to clean up the oil, his administration may actually do something positive.
AP: The State Department said in a statement Tuesday that the U.S. is working out the particulars of the help that’s been accepted.
The identities of all 12 countries and international organizations were not immediately announced. One country was cited in the State Department statement — Japan, which is providing two high-speed skimmers and fire containment boom.
I wonder how long it will take to “work out the particulars.” I guess if George Soros and friends stood to make any money off the clean up effort those particulars already would have been worked out.
