The idea of Ten Buck Fridays is for participating bloggers and any reader wanting to join in, contribute $10, less if you need to, more if you possibly can to the winner of the Ten Buck Friday poll each week. The donations are made by the donor directly to the candidate, at the candidate’s website. Ten Buck Friday Blogger do not collect donations. In theory, this week a donation of $10 from every voter would send a nice money bomb to Mr. Cravaack of about $26,500.00.  This post is the original explanation of the goals of Ten Buck Fridays.

This week’s winner, Chip Cravaack is a retired Navy Captain who served as a pilot, and a retired pilot from Northwest Airlines. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and holds a Masters Degree in Education from University of West Florida:

In his Navy career, Captain Cravaack has been honored with several awards and citations, including a Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Navy Commendation Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals, and a Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation. Captain Cravaack proudly wears Naval Aviator Wings, Navy/Marine Corps Parachutist Wings, and Air Assault Badge as well as being a designated Navy Master Training Specialist.

Chip’s wife, Traci, holds an MBA from The Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and his two sons Nick (8) and Grant (6) attend public school in the Chisago Lakes School District in Chisago City, Minnesota.

Cravaack’s opponent is long-time Minnesota Congressman Jim Oberstar. Oberstar ascended to the U.S. House of Representatives in January 1975 – that’s 35 years in Congress! He is 75 years old. You can access his voting record here.

Chip received the endorsement of the Minnesota Republican Party on the first ballot with 68% of the vote. WDSM interviewed him. He talks about his life as a Navy pilot and his aspiration to be a statesman. Listen to the audio here, and see a video here, and read where Cravaack stands on the issues here.
