It’s impossible not to see the lavish lifestyle the First Family is living. President Obama plays more golf than anyone with a full time job I’ve ever known. He and his wife jet around the world for date nights and elite vacations and the guest list at the White House is a who’s who of celebrities. But the Obama’s aren’t the only ones in the ruling class living high on the hog.
Chelsea Clinton, daughter of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Clinton, is getting married this weekend in upstate New York. The price tag of the nuptials is estimated to be as high as $5 million. That’s quite a party.
Examiner: Some of the details being reported by the new and wires services about the event are:
$750,000 for catering, $11,000 for the cake, $250,000 for the bride’s jewelry, air-conditioned tents, complete with glass walls — estimated rental cost, $600,000, a half a million in flowers as well as wine as a party favor from Clinton Vineyards (which has no relation to the presidential family). …
Must be nice! Public service sure is lucrative. Oh well, at least some upstate New Yorkers will make a few bucks off the event, and far be it from me to deny a young lady the wedding of her dreams. But it still seems a bit over the top, especially since the folks footing the bill constantly lecture us about spreading the wealth around. I’m sure they weren’t talking about spreading it to florists and caterers in upstate New York.
Ben Bernanke, the Federal Reserve Chairman, is also doing quite well during the recession. While many Americans lost their jobs and saw their 401k accounts dwindle, Bernanke made a bundle.
Financial Post: Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke’s personal assets rose by as much as 31% last year as U.S. stocks rebounded.
The central bank chief and his family owned financial assets valued at US$1.15-million to US$2.48-million last year, a higher range than the US$852,000 to US$1.9 million in 2008, according to an annual financial disclosure released by the Fed Friday. The forms from the Office of Government Ethics require officials to report only a range in the value of holdings.
Wow! Maybe Bernanke should go into private practice as a financial consultant. If he could increase all of our net worth by 31% the economy would rebound in no time.
Let’s not forget Obama’s nominee to head up the Office of Management and Budget, Jacob Lew. After Citigroup was bailed out by we the people, Mr. Jacob Lew received a nice hefty bonus to the tune of $900,000.
Canada Free Press: The money was paid to Jacob Lew in January 2009, about two weeks before he joined the State Department as deputy secretary of state, according to a newly filed ethics form. The payout came on top of the already hefty $1.1 million Citigroup compensation package for 2008 that he reported last year.
Administration officials and members of Congress last year expressed outrage that executives at other bailed-out firms, such as American International Group Inc., awarded bonuses to top executives. State Department officials at the time steadfastly refused to say if Mr. Lew received a post-bailout bonus from Citigroup in response to inquiries from The Washington Times.
But Mr. Lew’s latest financial disclosure report, provided by the State Department on Wednesday, makes clear that he did receive a significant windfall.
White House officials declined to discuss the compensation Wednesday, saying only that Mr. Lew is the right person to lead the Office of Management and Budget.
More and more we hear from the ruling class about “shared sacrifice.” I’ve yet to see even one of them sacrifice a thing. That’s for the rest of us to do. Welcome to socialism – where the rulers thrive and the little people suffer.
Update: Doug Ross’s wife had plenty to say about the Clinton wedding, and the media double standard. Be sure to check it out.

The people who want to increase taxes on the “wealthy” shouldn’t be spending colossal fortunes on parties. They should be sending their money to the U.S. Treasury.

Last I checked, the Palins aren’t going around saying that everybody else needs to pay more taxes and referring to the monied elites in the 3rd person while decrying their disporportionate influence.
Keep patting yourself on the back and then wonder what went wrong in December….

Well given that Obama ran on all the failed policies of the Bush Administration, maybe he should keep his hypocritical ass at the White House. The only good thing about the Obama presidency is so many people will be affected by his economic policy Progressives will be delegated to the sidelines for at least another 30 years.

“Some pigs are more equal than other pigs”.
Bious, do capital letters and missing or exaggerated punctuation substitute for intelligent debate on the Left? Is that actually how you refute a point? And then throw some name calling in to distract us from the fact that you did not actually make a valid argument?
Team Obama are, indeed, Socialist by nature. They are, indeed, violating the Constitution of the United States. They do, indeed, believe that much, much less is good enough for “you” (as part of the “common people”). Team Obama–and you, I would say–are petrified of Sarah Palin. That part I find interesting; if you’d like to explain that, I would read it.
By the way, you CAN spell check in here. It’s “brilliant”.
