Liberals say the darnedest things. Today Senator Claire McCaskill defended the TSA’s new enhanced pat downs (AKA groping) of air travelers.
Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri said prior to Pistole’s testimony that she believed TSA was in a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation, because people would be hopping mad at TSA if Christmas bomber Umar Farouk Adbulmutallab had succeeded. She went on to say the new advanced imaging technology–which has caused uproar because of its leave-no-secrets imaging and potential health risks–is more of a blessing than a curse.
“I’m wildly excited that I can walk through a machine instead of getting my dose of love pats,” Sen. McCaskill said.
Love pats?I dare say, hearing it characterized that way makes it even worse.
Heaven forbid they use a little common sense:
Senator George LeMieux of Florida agreed they were invasive, saying they had gone too far and that he “wouldn’t want (his) wife to go through these pat-downs.” He even suggested looking more at the Israeli model of behavioral profiling in airport screenings, which has been largely successful but also criticized as racist.
Oh no, we can’t have that raaaaacist behavioral profiling, now, can we? No, no, no! That makes too much sense.
Exit question: How long until they start doing full cavity searches? Maybe they will wait until after the TSA employees vote to unionize.
Update: Ann Coulter answered that last question. It’ll happen when a Muslim man is caught at an airport with explosives in his anal cavity.

What’s up with the friggin’ politicos these days?
It’s OBVIOUS that peeps are NOT happy with the TSA yet some inside the beltway defend it?
I’m getting a bad feeling that won’t go away until we finish cleaning house in 2012.

They’re probably surprised. They thought they had so degraded society that nobody would notice getting groped by ugly TSA agents.

Why stop there Claire? If you’re really serious about airport security and “public safety”, then you’re only going with half measures. Why not just end commercial air travel by fiat? There will be 100% less threats to commercial airliners if we just eliminate commercial airliners.
There is no Constitutional guarantee of a No-Risk life.
The TSA is just the currently most visible proof of government over-reach and incompetence. The Pentagon is always fighting the last war and the TSA is looking for yesterday’s Muslim extremist.
Matching blue shirts, does not a security force make.

Perhaps someone needs to tell Claire McCaskill that the Christmas Day bomber DID succeed. He was passed through the TSA security check point and got ON the plane. The bomb just didn’t go off. The TSA did nothing to stop his boarding that plane, nothing at all. So her statement that people would be hopping mad with the TSA is absolutely right – they failed in their duty.

Her comments actually sexualize the process, and they also imply travelers have a choice. The truth is any random passenger may be selected for a pat-down even if he or she opts for the scanner. Also, the smallest things in the scanner will indicate a pat-down — underwire bras, prosthetics, sanitary napkins, insulin and other medical pumps, and so on.
The El-Al model works. The Israelis have continually offered their assistance, post 9/11, in helping develop a similar model for US airports and airlines, but have been roundly rejected each and every time.
Now we find out certain people in positions of power had a vested interest in promoting this ineffective, invasive and probably dangerous technology (dangerous to each of us personally because of the radiation, dangerous to all of us generally because they are ultimately ineffective).
The TSA is now openly lying to us about the storage and print capablities of these machines. First of all, images in similar machines have been stored and posted on the internet, and secondly, what would be the point of a machine that could NOT store and print images should they actually catch someone with illegal material on their person? Wouldn’t they need this to prosecute?
Also, one TSA agent has been arrested for sexual assault and rape of a minor girl outside of his job. If the TSA can’t screen their own, what good are they screening anyone else?
Individual TSA agents are allowing their personal prejudices dictate their selection of random individuals to pat-down. We, the public, are subject to their various personality disorders of individual TSA agents. We’ve seen what airline personnel who are frazzled and stressed on the job are capable of — who’s to say one of these TSA agents won’t flip out on the job and seriously assault a traveler.
We also have cases of very small children being removed from their parents’ sight by TSA agents who do not have the authority to do so. These families are traumatized for life by these incidents. Given that at least one TSA agent has a criminal record of child rape, this is a serious issue.
And what kind of dysfunctional person BECOMES a TSA agent in the first place? You’d have to be seriously disordered to WANT to apply for a job that gives you the right to leer at other people and feel them up. WANTING the job is a serious red flag to begin with.

You have to be pretty confident that your constituents approve of goverment agents fondling kids at our nations airport to make such a statement especially when they find out that former TSA administrator Micheal Chertoff is peddling the scanners that Sen.McCaskill wants americans to use.Every republican running for re election will have to defend the actions of homeland security and they will lose.
