Video – Ron Paul on the TSA ‘Enough is Enough’

Rep. Ron Paul has had enough of the TSA. He’s introduced the bill “American Traveler Dignity Act.” He gave a great speech on the House floor that’s worth listening to.

Enough is enough!…Groping people at the airport isn’t going to solve our problem.

Hear! Hear!

More on the bill Paul introduced:

Ron Paul’s legislation would establish that the security screeners who grope travelers and gawk at their nude pictures be subject to the same laws as anyone else. “My legislation is simple,” Paul said in a statement available at his website. “It establishes that airport security screeners are not immune from any US law regarding physical contact with another person, making images of another person, or causing physical harm through the use of radiation-emitting machinery on another person. It means they are subject to the same laws as the rest of us.”

The principle behind the legislation is simple: If an individual can be arrested for groping another individual, why shouldn’t a TSA agent also be subject to arrest when he does exactly the same thing?

Ok, while I agree with Paul that enough is enough, this is a bit silly. Why isn’t someone in Congress starting the conversation we really need to have? We need to change the way our security works at airports. Logan has the right idea: behavioral profiling. Its based upon behaviors rather than just outward appearances, and requires intelligence by our security/police officers rather than blind screening and subjecting all passengers, including small children and little old ladies to searches, pat downs, and scans.

A number of them are calling for the behavioral approach. But, as usual, the democrats are against anything that makes sense.

Little by little we lose rights with new laws and regulations. Years ago, property could not be taken, but then eminant domain for public uses became law. After that, the supreme court upheld the rights for the government to take property for the development by private enterprises for what they say is for the good of the public.

Now we have an issue where the right to privacy is being ignored through these new regulations allowing for screenings that leave nothing untouched or unseen. Unless this is stopped, will travelers a few years from now be required to disrobe? Will this regulation be like the first step in the loss of property rights in this country?

Some may say this is the price to pay for security. Some may say it is a loss of freedoms our country was based on. But few will question that loss after it has been taken away once the smoke clears and it becomes a way of life.

The way to eliminate a democracy is to chip away the rights one piece at a time until those rights are taken away. Erosion takes a long time in the distruction, but goes unnoticed over the long run, much the same as our rights when they are eliminated little by little.

what bothers me is the predictable, knee jerk reaction. If someone has a bomb in his shoe – everybody needs a shoe inspection. If someone has a bomb in their underwear – gotta check everyone’s underwear. As with Health Care, there is no logical end to it – it is a bottomless pit. Furthermore, there is something awfully fishy about the ineptitude of the would be terrorists, considering that their bretheren abroad manage to successfully detonate their bombs. Why would there be a predictable response – then they learn how to get a desired effect of yanking the TSA chain. And our chain.
