If you want to snitch on your neighbors to the federal government, you’re in luck! There’s an app for that!
A new iPhone App with the misleading name ‘PatriotApp’ attempts to draw on the power of the patriot movement, turning smartphone users into a gigantic snitch network.
You might think an app with such a patriotic name might have useful functions like a pocket constitution or quotes from our forefathers. But contrary to the services one might expect, this app allows users to report any ‘suspicious’ behavior directly linking them with top government agencies.
In addition to snitching on those who may pose a national security threat or turning in America’s most wanted, there’s also a nifty feature for snitching on threats to the environment.
I wonder how many new federal employees will be hired for the iPhone app network?
Update: While on the subject of “Big Brother,” did you hear about how Progressive Insurance wants to track their policyholders with devices that hook up to vehicles’ on-board diagnostic systems? Don’t tell the government. Soon they’ll make us all use these things to make sure we aren’t wasting gas. Or they’ll make us all wear those “body bug” thingies that track our calorie intake and expenditure to make sure we don’t become obese.
