President Obama nominated John Bryson to be the next Commerce Secretary. Rather than choose a moderate concerned about the economy, Obama chose a radical green activist who believe cap and trade was a moderate proposal. House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa called Bryson a “green evangelist.” Just what the economy needs.
Issa said Bryson is a “green evangelist” and took aim at the long-time energy company CEO for co-founding the Natural Resources Defense Council, a leading environmental group.
“With gas prices at nearly four dollars a gallon, it’s certainly eye-catching that President Obama has nominated a founder of an organization that opposes efforts to increase domestic oil production to serve as the nation’s key advocate for our economic interests,” Issa said in a statement. “The nomination of John Bryson to lead the Department of Commerce seems deeply out-of-touch with our current energy challenge.”
President Obama praised Bryson as a “fierce advocate” for green energy.
Senator Jim Inhofe has vowed to block this nomination.
“By selecting John Bryson to head the Department of Commerce, President Obama is clearly demonstrating that he has no intention of backing down from his job-killing agenda,” Senator Inhofe said. “In fact, it is understandable that President Obama would select John Bryson as his nominee: he is a founder of a radical environmental organization and a member of a United Nations advisory group on climate change. Mr. Bryson once called the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill ‘moderate’. This is legislation that would cost American taxpayers billions of dollars, destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs, and hurt families and workers by raising the price of gasoline and electricity. I will be working actively to defeat this nomination.”

This morning I paid $3.90 per gallon for gas. If Bryson has his way the price will be $5.00 or more.

Gas will rise no matter what, that’s a consequence of peak oil. We could extract every ounce of domestic oil (actually physically we couldn’t, but for argument’s sake) and all it would do is slow the rate of increase.
So instead of tying ourselves tighter to a disappearing resource we should push for more “green” energy and transition our transportation infrastructure off of oil.
