Everyone’s looking for a GOP dark horse. Of everyone that’s in it, I still like Herman Cain. (So does Stacy.) Cain’s taking some heat over needing to brush up on foreign policy, but what foreign policy proposals did Obama offer up when he was campaigning? That being said, there’s another possible candidate who’s been flying under the radar – Rep. Thaddeus McCotter.
Kerry Picket picked up on it tonight.
Conservative Republican donors and grassroots activists, who have raised concerns that there is not yet a true Reagan conservative in the GOP presidential primary are privately encouraging Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, Michigan Republican, to look at a potential entry.
There’s been some buzz, probably started by Greg Gutfeld, but it’s starting to spread. You can check his voting record here. He’s a pretty solid conservative, and it sounds like he’s left the door open for a run.
If McCotter does run, he’ll be the first Presidential candidate I’ve interviewed not once, but twice. Cool.
As for the rest of the GOP field, I’m just not all that excited. I like Rick Santorum and Tim Pawlenty. But the rest of them aren’t doing much for me. Newt’s had his day, Huntsman’s got quite a few RINO policies to defend, and we don’t even know whether the rest of them are running or not.
Update: Nice Deb linked – thanks! She also has video of McCotter discussing foreign policy. Be sure to check it out.
Update: The Sundries Shack linked – thanks!

I would support McCotter in a heartbeat. He could run circles around BHO in any debate. Unfortunately I don’t think his persona will play well with a lot of female voters. Me, a male, love listening to this guy. When he makes his points it like tuning fork going off in my head. But then I loved it when Dennis Miller was on Monday Night Football.
Right now I’m leaning towards Pawlenty because he’s actually sat down and studied the issues, is likable, easy to relate to, and has a common sense approach to policy. He’s just comes off as bland.
Rick Santorum, Friday host of my favorite radio show, Bill Bennett’s Morning in America, is a brilliant legislator. This guy can walk you through every subtly of how bill as passed on the hill. I don’t think he’ll be the nominee but he needs to be in any new republican administration.
I like Herman Cain. I don’t know of a position of his that I do not like but I don’t think he has a command of the issues. If he did he’d be a viable candidate for me.
Love your site Lonely! I’ll be checking back often.

[...] okay. It’s pretty if you consider long waiting lines and a doctor shortage acceptable.I think Thaddeus McCotter would make an interesting candidate for President. He’s a bit of a conservative darling and a frequent guest on the “Red Eye” show [...]

I am not seeing the same “Reagan Republican” that apparently others see. I see an elected official who may talk the talk now but whose voting record is suspect. Pro auto bailout, pro stimulus, etc. To this conservative southern voter with a background in GOP presidential politics, I see another member of the GOP “Settler” movement; made up of GOPers like McCain, who talk a tough game but when it comes down to it, they are willing to settle for what they can get without standing when necessary on principle. Reagan stood on principle.
