I woke up this morning to some very sad news. My mother died in her sleep early this morning. For years, every breath she took was a struggle, but somehow she always managed to smile. Now her struggle is over and she is at peace.
I probably won’t be online much in the next few days, but Sam, Unlikely Hospitalist and Bill should be around.
Update: I just wanted to take a moment and thank you all for the outpouring of support, encouragement and prayers. I’m touched beyond words. Thanks also to The Other McCain, Instapundit, PoWiP and Lady Liberty for your condolences.

Karen, you and I have shared the many challenges that our Mothers have faced and how heartbreaking it is to face it with them. As you have said, your Mom is at peace now, but that doesn’t lessen the sadness of losing the very person who made your life possible – as betheweb said above, the person who “knew you before you even knew yourself.” Blessings to you, my friend, as you learn to live without her.
