The Toronto Sun reported that John Lennon’s last personal assistant has come out and said that in his later years Lennon was embarrassed by his former radicalism, and was a secret Republican. He said he didn’t like Jimmy Carter and was a fan of Ronald Reagan.
“He’d met Reagan back, I think, in the 70s at some sporting event… Reagan was the guy who had ordered the National Guard, I believe, to go after the young (peace) demonstrators in Berkeley, so I think that John maybe forgot about that… He did express support for Reagan, which shocked me.
“I also saw John embark in some really brutal arguments with my uncle, who’s an old-time communist… He enjoyed really provoking my uncle… Maybe he was being provocative… but it was pretty obvious to me he had moved away from his earlier radicalism.
“He was a very different person back in 1979 and 80 than he’d been when he wrote Imagine. By 1979 he looked back on that guy and was embarrassed by that guy’s naivete.”
Also, from John Nolte at Big Hollywood, in some of his last interviews Lennon came out against evolution, calling it “absolute garbage.” It was big news when Lennon died, but I don’t recall the media ever bringing that up.
The American Conservative has more. Apparently, Lennon wasn’t actually a Republican, more of an individualist.
In fact, Lennon died as something of an individualist. “Produce your own dream,” he advised in lieu of getting involved in politics. “If you want to save Peru, go save Peru. It’s quite possible to do anything, but not if you put it on the leaders and the parking meters. Don’t expect Carter or Reagan or John Lennon or Yoko Ono or Bob Dylan or Jesus Christ to come and do it for you. You have to do it yourself.”
Lennon once sang, in “Revolution,” “But when you talk about destruction / don’t you know that you can count me out” to express his ambivalence about Weatherman-style violence. By 1980 he was skeptical even about nonviolent social change. “I can’t wake you up. You can wake you up. I can’t cure you. You can cure you.”
He had traveled a long way from his New Left days. This Lennon was more complex, less idealistic than the one on posters and T-shirts worldwide. Imagine that.
Imagine what he’d think of Obama!

Not surrpising at all. Just have a listen to Double Fantasy; a “radical” departure from his earlier, drug-tinged, socialist-utopia nonsense. Once John found true happiness in his FAMILY (you know, the old-fashioned husband-wife-child kind) his views on all things changed dramatically.
Paul on the other hand is still a friggin moron.
