McDonald’s Caves – Apple Slices in All Happy Meals

Whenever we go to McDonald’s I ask my seven year old, who still occasionally enjoys a Happy Meal, whether he wants fries or apple slices. I’m no rocket scientist, but I was well aware of the healthy alternative, and so was my son. But McDonald’s is feeling the pressure from the likes of Michelle Obama and the food police, so now they’re going to treat us like a bunch of dopes and make our choice for us.

An apple a day may keep the doctor away. But when you put it in a Happy Meal, it might help keep regulators at bay too.

McDonald’s on Tuesday said that it would add apple slices and reduce the portion of French fries in its children’s meal boxes beginning this fall, effectively taking away consumers’ current choice between either having apples with caramel dip or fries as a Happy Meal side.

The move by McDonald’s, which has become a leader in moving from just burgers and fries to more nutritious fare like oatmeal and salads, comes as fast food chains face intense scrutiny from health officials and others who blame the industry for childhood obesity and other health-related problems. Some municipalities, including San Francisco, have even banned fast food restaurants from selling kids’ meals with toys.

Critics wasted no time complaining that McDonald’s changes don’t go far enough. Kelle Louaillier, executive director of a group called Corporate Accountability International, said McDonald’s is just trying to get ahead of impending regulations that will restrict the marketing of junk food to children and require restaurants to post nutrition information on menus, among other changes.

Who knows, maybe they’re doing it to avoid the tax the food police would like to impose on foods and drinks they deem unhealthy.

Time to boycott McDonald’s. There’s not much I can say about this insidious need of the Left to get involved in every facet of our lives…at least, not much I can say without serious and passionate profanity.

I hate them. And I mean “hate”. So much for their efforts at fostering love and butterflies amongst all the people. I used to just look down on them. Now I hate them. Off to find some fries.

I’m not sure what Wendy’s did with their fries, but they’re really good now. Sea salt, maybe. Mmmm!

I think you’re making more out of this than what it is. McDonald’s has always tweaked their menu. Many times, changes are a passing thing, testing the waters of the market. It’s also worth noting that McDonald’s has adamantly stated that this isn’t about being regulated by anyone but a response to customers. Surely, their decision was ultimately calculated based on expected sales and profits.
As a non-smoker, I have always said that the customers should be the drivers in a business decision to allow or prohibit smoking. This same concept should apply to what a restaurant serves. This seems to be the case with McDonalds.

I’ve decided to boycott McDonalds and also have written a strongly worded letter to their corporate offices. I ranted this morning on my blog, feel free to snag what you want from it.

We are one step away from the Cocteau plan, seriously.

I like Wendy’s new fries too. Oh and those mini-burger bundles are back at Burger king.

    A) Wendy’s fries are good (for fast food places.)

    B) I’d rather my kid ate a small portion of fries than apples dipped in caramel sauce. No telling what’s in that crap. Plus – the glycemic index of fried potatoes is actually lower than baked potatoes. The fat slows down the absorption of carbs.

    C) But the best of all is one of our local restaurant that cuts up it’s own potatoes, fries them in wonderful oil, and piles them deep and high on your plate. Heaven!

Are parents so stupid today that they need the government telling them how to feed their kids? Personally, I don’t approve of stuffing all this crap down kids but, guess what, it’s none of my business or the business of the government how anyone feeds their kids.

My kids like fruits and vegetables. If they want an order of fries every now and again, hey, why not? And like you said, it’s nobody else’s business.

Are you crazy? It’s my business. How dare you feed your children food I deem unhealthy, when I can’t afford food, period. The children of America is Americas future, and you’re gambling MY future by giving your kids freedom of choice. The Government KNOWS this unpatriotic plan of yours. You vile vile creature.

No parent should feed their children anything but what Michelle Obama, and the Government in general thinks is healthy. They know better – they’re educated to make the choice for us! This leaves us the FREEDOM (as every American deserves to have FREEDOM) to think of other things, like how we can raise our children to be friendly to the environment!

You feeding your kids fries destroys America, and our freedom as a people. The sooner we don’t have to think about how to raise our kids, the better!

        - This message written totally not under gunpoint from the feds.

Adrienne is right – it’s not so much the apples, it’s that the apples are a means to eat the caramel sauce. Frankly, the apple slices at Subway are better, & no sauce.

The government has to get involved in everything, treating us like the lumpen proletariat who just aren’t up to par with the elite leaders.
