If we’re going to bring up Ruby Bridges, and that troubling time in American history, perhaps we should also discuss which party was against Ruby Bridges having any rights. Just sayin’.

I agree, LC. But the president is the King of Equivocation.
And I beg to differ with the statement in the article that said “America’s vilest racial epithet appears in letters several inches high at the top of the canvas. “ The President’s own Party that he’s the head of has insisted that the most vile, raaaaacist epithet on the planet are the words “Tea Party”. I guess I missed it.

Today’s Democrats could give them a run for their money when it comes to vile racist epithets, that’s for sure. Hey, just like it was back then.

Personally I’m of the conviction that you can’t have too many Rockwell pictures up in public places

“…which party was against Ruby Bridges having any rights.”
The Democratic southern states become Republican after Democratic President Lyndon Johnson convinced Congress to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
The South has never forgiven Democrats for supporting the African-American Civil Rights Movement so they all became Republican… that’s the history of Republicans and racism.

If the Democrat Party had their way, the civil rights act would never have passed. Learn history, pal.

Do you REALLY want to go there, you smarmy, feeble-minded little fuck?
Was the Civil Rights Act of 1964 an Executive order that LBJ singlehandedly declared the law of the land? Or was it maybe drafted in the US Senate and House of Representatives. Well, gosh golly gee! A cursory online search shows that before reaching LBJ’s desk, 80% of the Republicans in both houses voted in favor of it….versus something like 65% of Democrats.
Then…and this would almost be funny if it wasn’t so sad…you expect us to believe that the Klansmen and Bull Connors of this world- irate at the Democrats for voting to grant them thar ‘coloureds’ basic rights- flocked to the party that passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 BY AND EVEN BIGGER MARGIN THAN THE DEMOCRATS.
Oh…and by the way- if I was one of these Republicans who supposedly hated blacks, I think the most hateful thing I could possibly hope to have inflicted upon them is decades of uninterrupted governance from the Democrat party. How long have Democrats been in charge in Chicago, Washington DC or Detroit?
Fuck you, fuck your race baiting, fuck your selective amnesia, fuck your revisionist history and last but not least, go fuck yourself with a rusty chainsaw.
Hot debate. What do you think?

It’s the ‘new civility’ as demonstrated by Bill Maher, Jeanine Garafalo and Maxine Waters.
Am I supposed to only embrace it when I’m on the recieving end?

Sure I understand your frustration, there are bad people on both sides that doesn’t mean those people have to reduce the rest of us into savages. I have difficulty with anger sometimes also, but I’ve learned that when I’m angry, how should I say it, I sometime don’t think as clearly as I should so it’s better to take a time out an let it pass.
I think picking an choosing the worst of the worst is a losing game, first it gives them eyeballs and two there is BIG money to be made in America if you’re a big enough jerk left and right. All IMHO.

One must rememeber the real history of racism in this nation. Senator BYRD who just died and was a leading DEMOCRAT for the democratic party for 55 years……….LED the FILIBUSTER AGAINST the Civil rights act of 1964….I dont seem to recall him joining the GOP after this vote.
As for the south it is reputed that Lyndon Johnson made the comment “We just lost the south” when signing into law the civil rights act.
This is partially true. Up to the 1960′s this nation was basically progressive and classical liberal in its politics. The left were progressives and the right was classical liberals.
Somewhere in the 1950′s under Eisenhower the right began rejecting the big government, big spending, Lets spend bazillions of dollars on wars and stuff…..IE…..WW1, WW2, KOREA and VIETNAM
THIS is why you hear the Democrats referring to Eisenhower so often and his great wisdom……Eisenhower and the entire GOP during this time were basically classical liberals and make sense today to the LEFT.
All of this came on the heels of a PROGRESSIVE IN FDR who spent billions for one failed policy after another putting more and more Americans on the DOLE. FDR 1945…..to Johnson 1964…that was only 19 years removed. Just like we are still talking about Reagan and Clinton…in 1964 we were still talking about WW2 and FDR policies.
As a result of a century of progressivism, FDR, A battle between progressives and classical liberals, FOUR major wars and spending that exploded as the left GRABBED more and more power for the federal government from the states, the right that you see today was born. It is why Ronald Reagan WAS a democrat and became a Republican when he realized that he had a choice between a real left and a real right. A choice to resist BIGGER government.
However that translated to Smaller government means the RIGHT is racists and that is what you see today.
The real racists are those people who bait a race of people onto welfare and entitlements and keep them their with policies that make it hard to get off this government drug of poverty and then tell them if you vote for the Republicans they will take away your DRUG…er we mean your entitlements.
And that is the real history of racism in this country. A nation of Lefties and farther lefties blaming racism on people who simply want fiscal responsibility and social justice and the Democratic party buying that line of BS because it absconds them from their ultimate failure of the people they are elected every 2 years to serve.

“rare White House message on race”
I thought the ‘rare White House message on race’ came from the justice dept and Eric Holder in dropping the New Black Panthers case – in that they were going to pursue cases on race based criteria.
