Michelle Obama Spent $10 Million of Taxpayer Money on Vacations in the Past Year?

Alternate title: It’s Good to Be Queen.

Times are troubled for a good number of Americans, but not the Obamas. According to a report in the Daily Mail, Michelle Obama has spent $10 million in taxpayer dollars on vacations this year. Must be nice.

The Obamas’ summer break on Martha’s Vineyard has already been branded a PR disaster after the couple arrived four hours apart on separate government jets.

But according to new reports, this is the least of their extravagances.

White House sources today claimed that the First Lady has spent $10million of U.S. taxpayers’ money on vacations alone in the past year.

Branding her ‘disgusting’ and ‘a vacation junkie’, they say the 47-year-old mother-of-two has been indulging in five-star hotels, where she splashes out on expensive massages and alcohol.

You can read the whole thing, and add up the totals at the end. It was also reported that she likes expensive vodka and wine. Maybe that explains the look on her face in this photo – she has a hankering for a cosmopolitan.

"Someone get me a drink"

Even if the total cost to the taxpayers isn’t $10 million, you know the price tag has to be pretty steep. She has a habit of taking a separate jet just hours before the president, not to mention housing her entourage and the added costs of flying to faraway places like Spain and Hawaii.

Earlier today I listened to a debate about presidential vacations. The point was made that everyone deserves a break and a little time with family. (If only members of our military got so much time off!) That’s true, but the Obamas seem to take it to another level. It’s as if they’re completely indifferent to the economic suffering going on right now, not to mention the three wars we’re involved in. It just looks bad. And they could cut back by going to places like Camp David, and traveling on the same airplane, to save a few bucks. But we all know that’s not their style.
